A helicopter in my travel trailer?

Good morning, ladies and gents! We are on a trip in our 2012 26BHPR and a new issue has popped up. When we turn on the air conditioner, the unit is so loud we can't converse, and the vibration is terrible. We had an encounter a year ago with a low overpass and had to replace the cover, but we've camped since then with no issues. What would be your suggestion on a place to start our investigation? Thanks in advance!

The first thing I would check is the 4 bolts that hold the roof unit in place. Take the ceiling cover off and look for 4 long screws in the corners. They should be STRAIGhT and the gasket should be about 1/2” thick from being compressed.

If all that’s ok, it’s time to get on the roof, remove the cover and look at the motor. Is it secure in the rubber mounts?

You might also pull the cover off of the AC unit and check the squirrel cage fan. It might have been damaged and now broken and out of balance.

If the issue only recently appeared, I would check the fan blades from the roof. Dirt, mud wasps, debris, etc. can and does accumulate on the fan blades and will knock them out of balance causing vibrations which are magnified by the roof structure.

Depending on your unit, you could have two fans that can be accessed from the roof. One is a standard blade type for the condenser coil (exhausts heat) and the other is a squirrel cage type for the evaporator coil (moves cold air through the ducts). On mine, it is one motor with a long shaft and one fan type on each end.

Update!

Thanks for all of your kind replies and your time spent. A handy friend and my husband got up on top and tightened and cleaned everything they could get their hands on, but nothing seemed to help. We finally took it to a repair shop and the guy spent 30 minutes on it, then called to tell us that I was a big dirt dauber nest on the fan. The problem was solved!
