F450 DRW tire rotation

I'm noticing some cupping on the front tires. Les Schwab says to rotate the fronts to the right-rear, wait 5-7k miles and then rotate fronts to the left-rear. Every 5-7k keep up with that rotation.

Does this sound correct?

All I know from having the tires rotated on our DRW is that they have to be dismounted from the wheels and remounted. I believe the answer to your question is in the book that came with your truck. It usually gives all that type of info.

If the tires are Continental, the fronts are "HSR" and the rear are "HDR", and should not be rotated. Have the alignment checked, and make sure the shocks are in good shape for tire wear on the front.

As noted, with the aluminum rims, you will have to dismount the tires and remount them. If you have all steel rims, you may be able to rebalance and rotate.

Thanks all!

They are aluminum rims so yes, dismount/balance, etc.

They are Continental HD3 Hybrids so the HSR/HDR does not appear to be applicable.

I have read online that other folks are having issues with 450's and rotation/cupping. I will try this "suggestion" from Les S. and should be back in a few months when I hit another 5k miles. Worst case that I can see is that the wear might get better, or I'll be buying a new set all around and have to reformulate a strategy for rotating from day one with the new.

With the Ford twin I Beam front suspension on the E and F series, the only place I have been able to get a proper front end alignment is an independent truck alignment shop (not Ford) with a true front-end specialist.

First weigh the rig to make sure you are not overloaded on an axle and adjust air pressure per the tire manufacturers load/pressure chart. Load the RV as for a normal travel trip and get it aligned as loaded.

That sounds like it's the correct way to check things front to back, ill have to find a good alignment person.

When you say "make sure you are not overloaded on an axle", I feel like this could be a can of worms. I'm assuming you mean to be sure everything is evenly distributed? I have seen my 3 axle toy hauler can be heavier on an axle depending on my tank levels.

Thanks.

Thought I'd throw this out there FYI. When I had the first service done on my F350 @7500 miles I inquired at the Ford Dealer about rotating and balancing (this was in Kalispell Mt) they wanted $200 for a one shot deal. I said that's ok and drove down the street to a Discount Tire. For $180 they took "Ownership" of the tires and gave me road hazard and lifetime rotate and balance Nationwide.

This is FYI only, no recommendations. We just broke 80k on our F450, Continental’s with 6/32 left on the worst areas. Never balanced or rotated. All are HSR.
As we covered a few weeks back, dollar for dollar, what to buy next? We are big Michelin fans, but they never made 80k, usually 65-68k.

Les S. offered me something similar and now I'm considering winter wheels/studded tires and then rotating back to the Continentals when it not snowing. The tire "ownership" would be for both sets.

Watch the Discount tire rotation. The package does not include breaking down the tie and rim.

I have had my done 3 times so far and there was no extra charges. You pay for the fact that it is a dually upfront.

I buy my tires from Discount Tires. and get the tires rotated every 6K.
Front to inside rear, inside rear to outside rear, out side rear to front. and balanced with each rotation at no cost. If I have a flat it is repaired or replaced at no cost. As I buy there protection plan. This is for my truck and RV.

Same here. I get my tires rotated every 5-6,000 miles. There is never a charge and they dismount and remount the tires on the appropriate rim. They also replace the tire pressure sensors each time. Said they have to do that when they dismount a tire. I've had the tires rotated at both my local store in Colorado and in AZ.

Maybe you better explain this. I’ve never known this to be the case.

My discount tire never replaces the tire sensors on the truck and I remove my sensors from my RV as the are flow through TST sensors.

Michelen XDS 2 A little aggresive for highway driving but a good all around tire if you don't want to run seperate winter tires. This is what we run on our F-450/550 trucks at work.

As for TPMS sensor removal I think it depends on the skill of the tire tech. They are easily damaged during dismount and mounting if you are not paying attention
