Passport LE 386RB ultralight versus LE 2510RB

Hey everyone, I am a new member, and my wife and I are about to purchase a new Passport ultralight Le travel trailer. We are just having a hard time deciding which one. We like the way the 2510 is laid out except the small bathroom. My wife loves the 286rb because of the big bathroom. I just don't know if I'm crazy about pulling a 31' foot camper or not. 28' sounds alot better to me because we are moving up from a 23 footer. Does anyone have any advice,remarks,comments good or bad about these 2 models and about passports in general that could help us????? Oh yeah, we will be pulling with a 2010 chevy silverado crew cab, 6 speed transmission w/3.08 rear end with heavy duty cooling package. Tow capacity 6700. Thanks guys, Aaron

Hi Aaron,
It sounds like your truck is right for either trailer, although I don't know the weight of either one. BTW, an extra 3 feet does not sound like a stretch for that Silverado!

Thanks Joe. I think the 2510 is 4810lbs and the 286 is 4958lbs, so not much difference. I', just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about these two as far as likes dislikes, and etc.???? thanks

If Mama ain't happy .. ain't nobody happy! Go with the 286. If you are not happy with 2510 you will be upgrading again. Get what you want the first time. JM2¢, Hank

I'd keep looking, make sure you both are in sync with the intended purchase, stay well within your TV spec's and enjoy!

Hi we own the 2510RB the bathroom is small but adequate for us, I pull mine with a silverado 1/2 ton 6.2 litre with the max tow package and it does fine, As with any half ton you will need to watch your payload on the truck, They list the tounge weigt on the 2510 at 510 dry but in all reality it will be more like 750 to 800 loaded, I weighed my tounge loaded with shurline tounge scale mine loaded is 800 pounds. The trailer loaded with all our stuff comes in right around 6000 pounds thats with about half tank of water, We really like our 2510 the build on ours has held up well so far nothing has broke so far knock on wood. The main concern i would have on your truck would be the 3.08 gears you have. hope this helps.

Olewassername and I got the 2510 and the bathroom IS snug. We liked the large slide and I thought having the bathroom away from the sleeping area might be a good idea.

I am not a slender guy but it works for us. I must say that this is our first RV ever so there is not a lot of experience talking here. I agree that if you have any reservations about a model, those reservations can become irritations down the road.

We are upgrading from a 22 ft passport 199ML to a 35 ft Cougar. Haven't taken delivery yet and am a little concerned about the length. Have revisited the model we ordered and looked over and over again for a shorter model we like...but we always come back to the 35 ft unit. I guess until I pull it....I'll be a little apprehensive. Have been told that towing a 28 ft or 30 ft or 35 footer is not that much different. Sometimes we think we like the layout of a 32 ft unit...but what's another 3 feet?

I think the biggest thing and most important is the TV and the WDH you use. As long as you control sway....I think length is less of an issue. We went with a Hensley to handle the sway a 30+ unit would surely get from winds and trucks. SAFETY first will always give you more peace of mind.

We are camping in Gettysburg now and our current campground could handle the 35 ft coach with no problem. The KOA here has more sites for 28 ft and less....but there are 10 or so sites that would handle 35 ft units.

Probably more than you wanted to know.....for what it's worth......

A general rule of thumb is to try keep gross weight of the trailer down to 80% of tow capacity. Towing above that 80% can be an unpleasant experience. With 6700 lbs tow capacity, your 80% figure would be 5340 lbs.

The weights you have listed, are shipping weight. Add a battery, full propane tanks, or any dealer installed options, and you are pushing that 80%, before you add any camping gear, water, dishes, and linnens.

Just before you buy... AFTER I got my LE 2510RB 2011 I did a nice noodle batch in the VR so I went outside to open the exhaust trap and guess what ??? There was nothing at all so I had to do it myself for less than $30 (ca).
So watch for this

We seriously looked at the 3180RE. The reason we moved to the Cougar line is that I could not get my shoulders in front of the sink....between the wall and the shower. Just way too cramped. Granted....I'm a tall/big guy....but that vanity sink is really very very small.

We just couldn't get past that.....Cougar bathrooms have more space...especially the vanity sink.
