Brand New FZ 301

New member here.

I just brought my new 2014 301 home today. I traded in my lightly used 2005 Wanderer Wagon for it. What an upgrade!! I did find out that this monster doesn't tow very good empty. It seams to be all over the road. I can't wait to get it loaded up and ready to go to see if its tow manners change.

We just bought the same about a month ago, been out 3 weekends with it. Love it compared to our last TT.

I have a 2013 301 I use a 14,000 LB equalizer hitch and have learned with no toys in garage to fill fresh water tank full. When I have the Polaris ranger in garage I only fill with 15 gals of water. Watch your tongue weight I purchased a Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale to check before we head off.

How much weight to you like to see far as tongue weight? Where is the fresh water tank in reference to the axels? I have a pretty hefty Equalizer hitch that the dealer moved from my old trailer to the new one. I'm sure it wasn't set up properly so that may have been part of the problem. We will try to get her out once or twice before the snow flys so I can have a chance to set it up right. Far as toys to carry the only thing I have now is my 2 Goldwings, both of which weigh in at around 900 lb ea.

Good to know and thanks for the weights. Bringing it home on day one it was swaying pretty bad so I'll make sure it has water or toys in it next time I pull it. My Goldwing weighs in at just around 900+ so I should be able to use your methods.

Also my dealer removed my old 12,000 LB equalizer and installed for use on my FZ 301. He told me it was more then I needed. After a few camping trips sold it and upgraded to the 14,000 lb equalizer and it made a big difference.

We finally got the chance to take the new 301 out for the weekend. The trailer proved to be a very worthwhile investment over the last one I had. I only have a couple issues with it. Talking about the central heat, when the furnace is running the one round register on the center island will blow your hat off but the two on the floor up front barley warm the register. The one in the bathroom and in the garage do ok but no where near the force. Path of least resistance at its best I assume. I like to see if there's a way to choke that island register down. Also has anyone taken out the Hide a bed sofa and replaced it with a nice recliner couch? I noticed that after time that seating area gets a little uncomfortable.

I have only been out ones and haven't try the furnace yet. But thanks for letting us know. I will bring some extra space heaters for our next trip.

It didn't have any problem warming things up, but if you are setting on the sofa enjoying some TV or what ever and the furnace is running you will get cooked. I would just like to regulate it a bit is all.

My other trailer had the 3" flex pipe to all the registers except the one in the bathroom which was 1 1/2 or so. That is something that I'm going to look into for this one in that area.

If you haven't tried the furnace yet, you 'll probably fill the RV with smoke and "burned oil smell" when you first turn it on. I'd urge you to open all the doors and windows and set the thermostat high enough to ignite the furnace, let it run for about 30 minutes or so, then let it cool down, close the doors/windows and turn it back on to make sure it's "broken in" and you won't have to suffer through the break-in when camped and the morning chill causes you to unsuspectingly move the thermostat up while expecting warm air to comfort you.

It's best to break it in while in the driveway than in the campground

Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely do it on my driveway before my next camp trip !

I just bought the 301 as well. only had a week and haven't taken it anywhere but home. full fuel and full water at 65mph against a 15mph headwind i had not sway issues. cross winds are another thing, but not the campers fault. I love this thing, can't wait to use it!!

Thanks on the heater heads up, going to winterize it this weekend and i'll run that heater just to get it broke in.

It will set off the smoke alarms too. Found out the hard way at 2:00am. I told everyone it was a fire drill.

Your signature says you have the Toyota Tundra. I'm wondering if that is what you use to pull your new trailer?
