I would get a class III or IV installed. Yes your current hitch is welded on, but that can be fixed quickly with a cutting wheel. Leave the plates in place where they are welded to the frame and add a new hitch.
This is probably a good idea. I did not realize that this hitch receiver is only a class I or class II.

I went back to the camper storage today and did a closer look at the welds, to see how I would replace the current hitch receiver and I realized that the receiver is actually bolted on. I can easily replace it, if I find a class III/IV that will match up with the current bolt locations.

The search is on....

If you use one that uses U-bolts to attach to the number, you wouldn't have to match up the existing holes.

How do I find out whether it's a class I or class II? There isn't anything on the hitch to tell me. I looked at Keystone's website, and I could not find any information on pre-installed hitches. If I called customer service, would they be able to tell me?

No quite sure what you mean by if I use U-bolts to attach to the number.

I'll try to describe the currently installed hitch.

The hitch goes straight across and has flat plates on each end that are bolted to "C" channel, which is welded onto the camper. The closest receiver that I found that looks like what I currenlt have is this one from Curt:

CURT Adjustable RV Trailer Hitch #13703

The issue that I have with this is the drop. From the image it appears to drop about 4". I think that is to low, and I would be worried about dragging the carrier on the ground.

if this is a new trailer and still under the manf. warranty, be aware, attaching this may void the warranty. My 2016 Passport SPECIFICALLY says in the warranty info that a cargo carrier attached to the bumper WILL void the warranty.

Just an FYI

I am not attaching anything to my bumper. I have a pre-installed hitch receiver that I plan on using.

Thank you for all of the feedback, I really appreciate everyone's input.

My Cougar arrived with a pullout tray/bike rack. It is labeled 200# max. I have never used it as sticking out I figure it will catch on a curb getting to a fuel pump or rest area. A camping neighbor with said he contacted Lippert about adding one and they said the frame on his 'Lite' model would not support the leveraged weight.

A new camper just started parking next to mine in my storage yard. He has a fold up cargo carrier already bolted onto his bumper, factory installed. Very nice. I don't remember the manufacture of his camper. I know that its a brand that is really popular in my area, but I just can't remember off the top of my hear who made it.

Am a bit jealous.

I'm pretty intrigued by the SafetyStruts. I've been considering having receiver welded on so I could use my bike rack back there. I'm going to have to research this idea a little more.

I think the Safety Struts supports will work great in making for a secure bumper. I can't beleive they offer a template on line. We have a full fab shop and it will only take a few minutes to make up a pair of these useing thier template.

Replaced the bumper on Passport 2510 with one of 1/8" and works great, replace before installation.
