Alaskan Highway 2019
I'm ready again. Full retirement (or as close as I can probably get) in May 2019.
I took 9 weeks off the Summer of 2017 to drive the Alcan by myself. Girlfriend and Hunting Buddy came up for two separate weeks.
I can't wait to do it again.
If anyone else is thinking about Alaska, let me know. Always good to have someone you know to camp with on the Road.
Happy Trails!

The Alaska trip is on our bucket list, but don't think we could do it next year.
As long as my dear Mother remains healthy (coming up on 95 years young) all of out long distance trips are to Maryland.
By the way are you in Dallas TX, GA or ???? (I wish everyone would add the state of the city on their location info)

I want to but dang that's a lot of miles from the Houston area. If I do it I will use the cabover. I ain't dragging the 5th wheel up there. If I use the cabover I'll be by myself. Betty ain't too fond of it.
I have said for 30 years that I want to get on Hwy 287 in Beaumont and follow it to Glacier Nat Park. I guess I could just keep going.

Gearhead, come up to Sherman and leave from here. It's only 3500 miles to the Alaska border.

We met a fellow with an old Blue Bird/Wanderlodge motorhome that was from New Orleans heading to Alaska & said "I'll have to fuel up 3 times on the way", I asked "only 3 times" & he said " yea it holds 300 gallons".

I'd probably have to fuel up 3 times before I got to Amarillo. But I can make it to Texarkana on one tank, barely.
I've been talking up the Alaska trip for a couple years. Need to get off the fence.
Liberty to Fairbanks..4,110 miles.

We've been to Whitehorse three times, long haul even from SE Saskatchewan, but well worth it. The first year was 2013. We had a 1997 GMC Suburban 4x4 1500 gas and pulled a Jayco 197 slider. Boosted the oil economy a bit. When we were at Whitehorse we did consider just taking the truck over to the nearest town in Alaska, but backed out. I had been using the old Sub when on gopher shoots, and there were spent .22 casings inside the cab. I'm sure if the border people would have found that I would have been labeled a terrorists. I figured to heck with that, I'll spend my money in my own country.
We've been to Yellowknife three times as well, also a nice trip.
