New Passport 3220BHGT - The Rolling Condo
Just upgraded from a 2001 27 foot Terry that was getting a little tight for our family of 4 to the Passport 3220BH Grand Touring. I grew up tent camping, but bought our first hybrid when daughter #1 came along. This will be our 3rd TT, and what a beauty it is. I used to call the Terry the "rolling apartment". Now I'm telling people we have the "rolling condo".
Other than pulling it 30 miles home from the dealer, our first trip will be next weekend to campground about 90 minutes from home, just to give it a good check-out. We plan to do a tour of Michigan at the end of July and want to make sure everything works for longer than the 30 minute PDI.
What really sold me on this one was the 6,100 lb dry weight and 600 lb tongue weight for such a large camper, with so many features. I'm pulling it with a 2011 Ram 1500 that has a towing capacity of 8,500. Don't expect too much of an issue, other than maybe in heavy cross winds, and navigating the 35 foot beast through some gas stations and tight campgrounds.
I do plan on a few storage upgrades (e.g. drawers under dinette, gas shocks on master bed, pull-out shelf in outdoor kitchen, etc.). If I get really ambitious, maybe an outside storage hatch to access the middle dinette seat storage from the outside. Would love to hear about upgrades to the 3220BH that others have made.
Happy camping.
