Step Lights

Our Alpine has a feature that when the door is open, courtesy "rope" lights embedded on the inside and outside of the threshold come on to light the threshold, and the steps. When you close the door the light goes off.

For the life of me, I can't find the plunger switch that would make this happen old school, but I'd like to add some extra lights in the stairwell so I don't have to turn on my porch light. I really hate the idea of messing with the Kick Plate if there is a better way.

Any ideas? Maybe hidden magnets?

HELP!

Almost all the door lights use a manual plunger assembly. It's usually located either on the door frame (behind one of the screen door hinges) or another location where the door will press against the switch when closed. The most "unique" location I've encountered is inside the deadbolt/door latch fixture. When the door was closed, the "lock tab" would open the switch to turn the lights off. No that wasn't on a Keystone LOL

It'll look something like this, I believe:

You may want to also look for a small magnet on the screen door. If there is one then there will be another one on the frame that acts as the switch. I see them used a lot for "step switches" on motor homes.

Our Alpine, there are two small plunger style buttons at the bottom of the door. I'm assuming they activate magnetically, as when I push them in with my finger... the threshold lights stay on. I thought it would be nice not to have them always on when the door was open for long periods of time, but what the hey!

I added these to my steps. Installed a simple waterproof switch beside the steps. Its not automatic but when you are needing the step lights just push the button and the bugs do not seem to be attracted like the led strips or porch lights over the doors.

Already have the switch but would like to know where you bought the very cool blue light.
