Entry door handle swing direction - there is a correct direction
Apparently there is a correct way to swing this handle and I learned this the hard way. If your rig has a slide right next to your grab handle never swing this handle over the side. I will now only swing it over the entry door.
We had it swung over the side and decided to stop in this parking lot to eat lunch in our rig. I used the rear door to enter the rig and opened the slides from inside. I didn't realize the handle was now resting against the side of the slide as it stayed against it as it was traveling out. When I pulled them back in the handle took the brunt of what I had done. Lucky I didn't damage the rig in anyway, only this handle. Had to bend back the hinge pins straight to get it to swing back out. Even so it is all bent up at the top.
The moral of the story, only swing this handle over the entry door and never over a slide.
This is meant to only be educational.
When I took this photo I didn't realize I was taking a photo of what I had done. I only realized this happened when the handle was all bent up and would not swing back out and that was after we pulled the sides back out. Later I looked at this photo I took and it was a aha moment.

Glad the handle took the brunt of the damage.

Good to know since we have the same 3280FK. My experience was the slide just pushed it out and it latched in the extended position with no issue. We are finishing up 4 weeks in ours and have had only minor workmanship items, that gave me something to do. The screws on the decorative wheel skirts are always needing to be tightened. Good Luck!

I always assumed it was kinda a dual purpose thing...handrail and a safety to keep the door closed if the latch isn't engaged. One of the few well thought ideas in the RV world.

That's what I do with it. I've seen others driving down the road with a door flapping open (they must not check their mirrors much). It's a good safety latch for the door.

I have read articles where thieves use this handle to cover the door so you are not able to open your door at night. There needs to be a mod to lock this into the position you want to have it in.

It may be true, but they can't stop you from using an emergency exit. I haven't tested it, but I bet a solid shove on the door and the handle will move.

Thanks for the post. We always stow the handle across the door for the reasons mentioned above, but never considered the consequences of folding it over the slide. Great advice.
