Ram 3500 question
After about 45 minutes of travel, I start getting warnings that I have an issue with my lighting connection, then to check connection with electrical brakes, then that I have an indictor saying I have brake failure. These warnings change back and forth, then show all is well with no rhyme or reason. I have replaced my trailers connecting cable and replaced squeeze connectors with heat shrink soldiered connectors. Chase vehicle says all lights working while showing failure. I'm thinking it is a vehicle problem and not a connector problem. I've searched older posts, but found nothing.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? How was it resolved?
My Ram 3500 is a 2017 with less than 3500 miles.

I have had similar issues, warnings that trailer connected or no brakes or lights!
Had dealer try to resolve the problem with no luck! Now I do my pull test when I start and ignore the warnings. I realize it’s not the answer you are looking for but I finally gave up.

Check to see if you have LED lighting on your trailer. I have heard that can cause a light out issue or warning. if you do, you might need an adapter that most all trailer supply shops have them

I had the same issue. It was a faulty ground connection in the pigtail between the truck and trailer. Check your wire nuts.

I had that warning once and the plug worked loose. Pulled off the interstate, plugged it in securely and worked fine. I thought it was a nice feature as we were in the hills of Tennessee and could of had a negative outcome had we not known. I have not researched the trigger points but would like to know.

its your trailer wiring more than likely.

Check the connection behind the bumper where the main harness connects to the 7 way plug.

Thanks to all of you! I'll try everything ( it might take awhile) and post my results.

Update-fyi--I had the Ram at the Dealer yesterday and discussed this matter with the service manager. I was in to have the recall on the pin in the transmission which affected park done. Manager also told me there was a recall on the marker light covers on the roof lights. He says they checked and there were no incidents listed in the computer, so I would need to bring it back with the trailer attached, so they could check it out.

There is a trailer simulator they can hook up and drive around with. Just plugs in. About five inches long and will tell you if trailer is connected, and if every terminal is doing what it is supposed to do.

My 2500 did the same thing. I checked all the connections and added dielectric grease. No more issues. Also mine was worse when it was wet out.

Had a similar issue on my '16 3500 when pulling an older flatbed. Turned out to be bad brakes on the trailer. Never happened with the fiver.

I too had a similar condition with my 2012 Ram 2500. I would get a trailer brake disconnect warning on my EVIC and a CF! error on the controller screen. My brakes would stop functioning on the trailer (made for some hairy situations). I tried everything to fix it and was told that it was the brake controller itself. One of our local Ram techs warned me that these were finicky and prone to failure and that even a new one would likely fail again at some point so I bypassed it and went with an aftermarket Tekonsha Prodigy P3 controller and haven't had one error since then.

On a side note I took my 2016 Ram 2500 in for the transmission shift interlock recall last week, While I was there I asked that Tech if there was a way to turn on the day time running lights. He said he did not think so, but he said lets try, Hooked the truck to the computer and yes there is an option on the computer screen to activate the DRL, Downloaded it to the truck and now I have DRL.
so next time anyone is at the dealer ask them to activate them for you.
I know the 1500 trucks have them activated but if you have a 2500 or 3500 they are not required by law by the Ram to activate the DRL as the 2500 and 2500 are considered commercial vehicles.

RAm 3500 Question
So I too have the same truck pulling a 2017 Montana. Had the same problem, turned out to be a trailer brake problem and not a truck problem. Dexter back plate and brake assembly on right front axle was culprit.

I can select daytime running lights on my truck in the settings menu. I don't like them because it does not turn on tail lights.

I'm still having this problem! I replaced the connector cord from the RV to my RAM, just to eliminate the possibility of loose/corroded/screwed up connectors. still have the same problem.
There have been LED bulbs switched out with the stock bulbs inside the RV, but I don't see how that could cause this problem.
Once we are on the road, everything works great with no indications of any problems. Then I will get a warning to check the trailer connections. After a moment or two, that will then go away, and then repeat a minute or two later. After multiple repeats, I get a trailer brake failure warning. Then that will go away and we start over again.
I sincerely appreciate all the great suggestions!

What year Ram? Also, is there a plug in the bed, or are you using the plug in the bumper? If in the bed, is it factory installed or aftermarket? If its in the bed, check the harness from where it connects to the factory plug at the bumper up and into the bed. The upper end where it goes through the bed wall is at a 90 angle and there could be a loose or wire or somewhere along the harness it may have rubbed a wire bare, causing an intermittent fault.

It is a 2017 Ram with the connection on the bumper and was factory installed. However, the goose neck ball was not and they may have loosened a connection. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!
