Second Gate Valve for Grey Tank

I agree with BrentW. I have a 2018 Cougar with the same rust. Gas pipe is always black steel pipe - at least on RVs. Some of it has a varnish like coating that is readily removed. It is not galvanized so it is subject to rusting externally.

For residential applications, there are other choices. SS might be legal for use but it would be extremely expensive. I wouldn't bet the farm but I don't believe copper would be allowed for the distribution pipes even though copper tubing is used to connect the black pipe to the appliances.

When steel rusts, the rust forms a "protective" barrier as long as the steel is not exposed to salt. Also, I understand that Keystone has a western manufacturing facility in Oregon. Piping may have been exposed to moisture before or after installation.

Lastly, my 2018 Cougar has two grey tanks and valves.

You have two grey tanks, one black tank, and three levers/valves.
I added a valve on the output of my seer connection that is there permanently.
II keep it and the black tank valve closed and open both grey tank valves. One grey tank will always fill up first and this lets both grey tanks fill at the same rate.
When I dump tanks, I close both grey tank valves and open the black tank valve and the extra dump valve to dump and rinse the black tank. Then I close the black tank valve and open both grey tank valves to dump them. When I'm finished I close the extra valve I installed with the BT valve closed and the grey tank valves open and it's ready for the next trip. It sounds complicated but it's not

Don't feel bad, I didn't know there was a separate tank for the galley. On our 336bhs there's a button on the tank monitor labeled "Galley" and one for "Gray".

The galley tank filled up on our first trip and didn't know there was a valve just for the galley. It's really hard to see. I opened the gray valve and it still showed full, so I thought there was a blockage or the monitor was bad. Luckily I checked with this forum and found the galley valve before I took it back to the dealer.

It's really a crappy place to put a valve, it's not fun crawling under the coach at a dump station.

As for the black pipe for the gas lines,I wire brushed off all the loose rust then sprayed the lines with rubberized undercoating available at any decent home improvement center or automotive store.Never to rust again.

One of the first things I did when I brought our summerland home was to put rust treatment (phospo) on the lines (and other exposed areas) then paint them. I had seen new units on lots already showing excessive rust so an ounce of prevention . . . That was 2017 and the lines are still looking relatively new. Just my two cents

How are we going to mod that t handle so that we dont need to crawl/bend under the 5er to open it.

That is my only complaint ....

well it is one of 3 complaints

....the refrig has two: wont cool in 90+ days and the the filler bar between the two doors does not work correctly (others have had the same issue)...need to add washers to lift the door so that the filler bar seats in the opening and closure track at the top of the left door.

I just added a valve at the outlet end of the sewer connection. I plan to leave the #2 grey tank open all the time. The additional valve is closed until the hose is connected and then opened. My only concern is black water backup into the #2 tank when dumping.--Thoughts

I think the reason they did it this week is to keep the valve in an area that won't freeze. Just a hunch. As several of us have been told "they know how to engineer an RV and don't want comments from the owners"

Yea, I don't like the idea of an open valve all the time and certainly not without a p in the drain hose.

Having the valve where it is, is ok, but I want a handle that is easy to get to. valve with a cable like the two forward valves or an elec valve (cost??).....and that is what I will probably inst..
