Look up osmotic blistering. Sounds like what's happening. It is a problem with boats. Sounds like it could be caused by water getting in behind the panel.

This is interesting. Thanks for posting. I was assuming airvoids but this seems to make more sense. So does anyone know the process/materials used when making panels??
Is it just glass/epoxy covered luan and then gel coat sprayed over it?? Is there any chopped mat or other fiberglass strand laid up onto the luan for structure??
I have only seen air voids from glass not getting rolled and resin not getting rolled into mold on boats, never this, but all of our boats are mostly structural foam, fiberglass, and gel coat. Wood seems to have made its way out of boats entirely in all our lines.

Hi all! I realize this is an old thread- but there doesn’t seem to be any resulting to the thread. Did anybody ever find out what it was or what Keystone’s position on it is? Thanks Andy!

I did not get resolution on mine. Keystone said it was reported after the 1 year warranty expired. That was because the dealer reported to Keystone after the date even though I reported it to the dealer prior to the date. I gave up fighting.

I am 100% convinced it was caused by the dealer using a pressure washer when in for service. Both locations of pits are near where the dealer did work. The basement compartment seal was leaking which they fixed under warranty. The pits on the slide were after they did routine maintenance on the slide seals. I don't have proof they caused these, but coincidence on location where these appearred, and I did see power washers in the service bays. They have not gotten any worse. I may take the unit to a boat service shop to see what they say and if they can fill these in to avoid further issues. Would rather do that than back to the RV dealer at this point.

Captcolour- thanks for the update and passing on your thought. sorry to hear Keystone is a PITA about this issue. I hope it doesn’t get any worse for you. I’ll make a point to think twice about using and how close I get when using a pressure washer again.

I have the same problem on my unit. I discovered it yesterday when washing it to get it ready for the new season. I'm so upset about this. This could derail my whole summer.

Osmotic Blistering

This is DEFINITELY what's happening. I've had my 16' Outback for 30 months and it just started on ours. The dealer won't/can't take responsibility and Keystone WON'T take responsibility. The dealer will repair it for $7300!! And, they said they can't guarantee it! I'm fuming over this! Has anyone tried getting a lawyer? That's my next option.Click image for larger version

Here is the reply I got from Keystone on my osmotic blistering:

"I just heard back from my service side both my service advisor and Outback product manager were not able to find a manufacturer defect from those photos they are only seeing a possible damage issue. Keystone RV would respectfully decline participation. If you need further assistance please contact us at 866-425-4369 and any one of our advisors will be happy to assist you."
