I believe Texas has the strongest protection via our Homestead laws which are written into the state constitution which has existed even prior to Texas becoming a state and shield homes/land from lawsuits. There is no dollar amount as in many states who also have homestead laws. Other than my home and land, my 96 F250 is my other big ticket item... well I do have a trike and 1980 GS1000G and the dogs. Wife would be really mad if I did something, got sued and they took her dogs!

Umbrella insurance is amust if you own anything of value that you want to keep in case of lawsuits. Too many feel if their injured or have property damage, they won better than a lottery ticket. And many lawyers happy to file and proceed without payment until or if they win as long as they get 30 to 40 percent of the settlement.

This is 100% correct. Lawyers look for cases like this and will handle with no money up front and take 40% of any settlement. A lot of times they will also include their legal fees in the lawsuit which means that if you settle for any amount, you as the defendant, are on the hook for all of the legal fees.

I have a 2016 tundra. 400hp. I dont even notice my 5000 pound trailer while towing. I know your truck is smaller and has about the same horsepower of an f150. That being said, I sometimes think a lighter, smaller trailer would be nice. Not just for the towing, but for parking and ease of use. I often camp with my ice fishing wheelhouse when i expect inclement weather, etc. There are advantages to a smaller, lighter trailer. And yes, a weight distribution hitch is necessary.

So if the OP is correct, they may now have changed much.
Sorry, your info is out of date. My tundra has a 2100 pound payload and 12000 towing. I sold my 5.7l ford because it had too little power and too little payload and towing capacity.

Go for it. I had a 2000 Tundra with the 4.7l. I towed a 2001 KZ Frontier, 22ft. This will be a learning curve to see if you like camping. Once you decide, move up to a bigger(and more expensive) TV/TT combo. Good luck and enjoy life.

Could you be more specific on the details of your Tundra? I looked on Toyota’s website and the best payload # I could find on a Tundra was 1730 lbs.

Maybe I didn't see it, but what is the GCWR of the truck?
