Getting ready to go

Today I cleaned "The Beast" and started packing it for our first trip of the year.
We are going to Pigeon Forge in March for Ponies in the Smokies. A wonderful gathering of 1200 Ford Mustangs.

Looked out the window and sighed because there is still a pile of snow in front of it.

Uncovered and moved it into it's "summer" spot in our driveway....tested all the mechanical systems, fired up both fridges.

We are getting a run of dry warm weather here in the Pacific NorthWet so later this week I'll de-winterize, check the tire pressures and adjust, and fill the propane tanks...then on Friday it goes into the dealer for lube, seal inspection and touch up, and a couple odd minor repairs that I don't feel like tackling myself.

Lots to do ahead of our first trip in April but sooooo glad it's almost time to head out again!

Finished installation of the Roadmaster Comfort Ride shock system. Plan on traveling some BLM roads this summer and they tend to be rough.

Well got crazy and scrubbed the roof of our Copper Canyon, the Heng’s coating we put on in August of 21 still decent, but will likely re-coat this summer.

Overpaid for a set of "Trailer Master" China bombs instead of the Carlisles I was promised, because the old tires were damaged and I was on a destination deadline. Tire guy saw me coming, now he can watch me going.

HAHA, went to storage place and took the snow off the cover 10 days ago, let it dry out nice during the warm weather and took it off this past weekend and made an appt to get the bearings packed today. Woke up to an inch of snow with frozen ice on any paved surface...called to cancel my appt since I can't get it out a hill at storage and made a new appt for next week. Well 16" of snow predicted for this weekend! Looks like we will be prepping at the storage facility except for flush/water and hopefully can get it out of there before our trip the end of the first week in April!

Well the good news is it is light and fluffy....the bad news is that the 16" of snow ended up being 28" of snow...guess the bearing repacking will have to wait another week.

I put a gas strut (found some 10inch on the internet) on the cabinet above the frig. YEAH...no more stuffing a roll of paper towel in it to hold open.
I also brought the plug from the ceiling above the happy jac in the garage down to make it easier to plug phones and computers in.

Also added some Duraflaps on the rear and some Husky flaps on the front. Both pretty easy to install. I went with the extra long in the rear. Hopefully I'm not dragging them into shape down road. We get on gravel roads sometimes and I didn't want to put those goofy looking Rock tamers on the rear.

Edit...almost forgot I added a set of 7500XL bags on the rear also. But all I did was pay for everything!

Whew...I'm exhausted, think I'll make a Davearita and sit down to relax!

Put a coat of sealant on the front to help with the bug splatter.

Lots of wind and rain during the night so I went and checked for leaks. I re-siliconed the LED light strips where they had leaks. Seemed to be OK this morning. This is on a '22 Cougar RDS with the front windshield.

Moved the low point drains and fresh water drain from under camper to edge of frame.
Don't have to craw under camper to drain water now.

I put $400 down on it. Pick it up Friday. Upgrading from a 16 foor hybrid. Super duper excited. It's so beautiful $9400.

Seemore Smore DeBoer officially but "Seemore" for short.

Congratulations on your new to you Hideout. That's a wood frame trailer with 7 years experience in fending off rain and snow/sleet. I'd do a very careful inspection of the roof membrane, paying close attention to the moldings on the edges of the sidewall/membrane union. Also, the "joiner strips" at the top of the front and rear walls are NOTORIOUS for leaking. It's an aluminum strip with several "gobs of DICOR sealant" over the screws. Sometimes those "gobs" stop water leaks, sometimes the leak is from the edges of the aluminum strip, not from under the "gobs"...

Also, check all the clearance lights for any sign of water intrusion. Corrosion on the inside of the fixture and/or water leakage from around the entire fixture. Those screw holes are direct connections with your wood frame and the spun fiberglass insulation batting behind the corrugated aluminum walls.

It looks like a nice trailer and may not have any issues with water leaks, but all it takes is one winter with a small leak to destroy an entire front wall or an entire slide floor.... Prevention is your best bet to maintain your trailer's good looks <G>

Completely transition from storage to camping mode...

NOTE UPDATE - notch in wood

Due to the pending storm in our area removed from storage, prepped the water system, tested everything was operational, packed bearings and installed the new external filter system recommended from the forum. No more blue filter dangling!

I noticed two preexisting holes in the lippert stabilizer frame, so mounted a wood block to that and then used two screws spaced properly for the filter frame. The pic I took of the lippert stabilizer was NOT the side I mounted it. It is mounted on the opposite side (the non-motor side) under the wet area.

The filter will fit in the wet area, if desired during travel.

Update - all worked fine until the 4th or so stop where the ground was uneven, the structure somehow about a 1/2 inch and popped off the wood from one of the screws. The wood bracket works fine if a "notch" is taken out of it as shown in my primitive drawing

A couple winter projects coming to an end and getting ready for this upcoming camping season... We kept our Hideout in the yard over the winter which allowed us to pop out and "camp", even if it was just in the yard.

Had a small leak coming from the cold water side of the shower faucet. Pulled that out and ended installing replacement brass fittings, a new bezel and faucet to replace the original unit (that just felt cheap and flimsy). Realized quickly that the pex fittings did not require teflon tape and sealed just fine with just the rubber seal. (That was a quick on and off as water started spraying in every direction, lol).

I pulled the Dometic 2652 out as the cooling unit went last fall and installed a Magic Chef 10.1 in its place. We're not out boondocking or going anywhere that we won't have shore power... the added space inside this thing is great compared to how cramped the Dometic felt.

I removed the stock Dometic thermostat with a MicroAir EasyTouch unit that connects wireless and bluetooth and allows me to control and monitor it from my phone. Install was easy and straight forward... the stock unit pulled out, the 3 wires swapped onto the Micro Air and it was online and connected in minutes. It was nice to be able to monitor a few cold nights that I could turn heat on remotely since we de-winterized about 2 weeks too early.

I ended up removing all the blinds and have a coworkers mom, who is a seamstress, working on some new black out curtains to go in their place. She handed me off a set today to try and make sure that our measurements are accurate and will work... and then she's going to knock out the rest.

Next project is to address a water leak in the back bunk area that's rotted away a lot of the corner frame (allowing more water to leak). I attempted to fix that in the fall by pulling the corner area and retaping it, but it clearly wasn't enough. Hopefully we can pull that and reframe the corner to get it water tight.

Watched a movie and had a campout with the grandkids. It sure is nice having the trailer stored at home. They love to "camp" during sleepovers. I also built a gas firepit by the pool that we make smores on sometimes
