Half Inch Torque Wrench

For anyone who has been "wanting" a torque wrench to throw in their RV, but hasn't yet taken the plunge, Harbor Freight is having a "Father's Day Weekend Sale" this weekend. There is a coupon available for "your choice" of a 1/4". 3/8" or 1/2" adjustable torque wrench for $9. That's the cheapest I've seen them, normally the "coupon price" is $11 or $12.

Granted, this isn't the "Starrett" or "Snap-On" quality wrench, but for bouncing around in a travel trailer, it's not a bad deal.

Half Inch Torque Wrench

Own the half inch version and it works fine. Make sure after you are done using it you set it back to zero so you unload the spring
during storage.

I own Craftsman, Snap On, Matco and HF torque wrenches. The finish on the expensive ones is better and the mechanisms seem to be a little smoother, but the HF gets the job done just as well as the expensive ones.

In my opinion 4% exactness is not great but good enough for the most jobs on a camper and the price is great.

FWIW, I have used a HF 1/2" drive to build engines for 30+ yrs. haven't had a single failure that could be blamed on improper torque.

Harbor Freight tools seem to evoke a love or hate response in every discussion I have been involved in. To each their own.

You know, as an afterthought, the HF came in a plastic container; the others did not

Hand tool or power tool, always a selling point for me!

There are a little bit more differences between cheep and quality hand tools than the price or a plastic container for storage.
Everyone who scratched with the back of the hand along sharp edges because a cheap tool failed nows what I'm talking about.

I'm not only talk about 2% or 4% accuracy.

I wouldn't trust a 9 dollar tool when it comes to doing the job properly. If you're going to do the right spend the money and buy real tools.

Back when I had 3 shops if I ever saw a guy roll his tool cab in with cheap tools he'd be rolling it right back out and loading it into his truck.
If a guy has no pride in his workmanship you can tell right away from the tools that he owns.
You have a person's investment in your hands and using a cheap torque wrench is a big no no!

Haven't been kicked out of any dealership yet. I take immense pride in my work and the quality of my work shines. I've had the same customers for 30 years.

I've seen people with "expensive" tools do some awful shoddy work. Since this thread was originally intended to inform people of a sale on a tool, I'm done responding.
