Wanting to widening the inside door

Hey y'all! First of all thankyou for viewing my thread! Warning I am very new to all the wonders of the Rv world. I have a 2007 American standard 42' toy hauler. I decided to go with this one because I came across a deal to good to pass up. Me and my wife gave up on living in apartments and started living in our toy hauler. So we want to make it as comfortable as possible. We are wanting to widen the door that separates the cargo bay and the livingroom/kitchen that way we are able to move in funature easoer. Any tips as far as how to approach this and supporting and framing the new door?

With time, some skill, the proper tools & usually lots of $$ anythings possible. If there's no plumbing/electrical in the wall it would be pretty straight forward, the only problem I could see is where you'd find a bigger door.

If you have room on one or both sides, it may be possible. Remove the existing door and trim. You should find 2x2 framing with Luan outer panels. Cut the new opening to your desired size, glue/screw in new framing and reinstall new/old trim. You may have to get creative and fabricate a new door. OR buy a hollow core door from HD cut it down to size and glue in new top and side pieces to close it up again.

Take your time, google and YouTube are your friends, A good carpenter friend wouldn't hurt.

The finished size of the 2x2 are more like 1.5 x 1.5. You can get hollow core doors in 30" 32" and 36", you may only have to cut off the top or bottom. If your ceiling is high enough a standard door may fit.

You may want to look at furniture where the back separate9from the base. That may got in without making a bigger door. Something to consider.

Thankyou guys. I defiantly have considered the furniture that seperates as chip suggested. Im also concerned because I have family that require a wheel chair to get around. So I wanted to make that door wider for that purpose as well. Thanks again guys I'll keep these in mind. I'll also take before and after pictures to show yall! May be a while though. And I don't know how to post pictures to the forums yet.

FIL is in a wheelchair, built a folding ramp for his Class A and installed a reclining Lazy Boy on a swivel for seating him. If he can't make it on his feet we use a transport chair. A transport chair only requires 24" There is a 24" entrance door on the MH. He is now 90 and we take him on a 1000mi journey to see his 92yr old sister at least once a year.

Look at all your options, as there are many.
