Tongue jack "took it's last lick"!!!

Stromberg Carlson 3500# bit the dust(3 yrs old). It started bogging down and blowing fuses. I changed the switch and greased all the moving parts and got a few more camping trips out of it before it finally just burned up. Researched a few old threads and read a lot of product reviews, and decided to try a Brute Force 4500# w/remote, mainly because I got it for $199(scratch & dent on Amazon). A little less noisy and sounds like much less strain on the motor than the Stromberg. One of the negative things said about the Brute was that the switch was not sealed against water entering it. This one has sealed switches and it looks like the way the outer casing is made doesn't allow water to enter through any crevices. I guess time will tell if this is a good unit.

Keep us posted on performance. I use one of the vinyl bags on the head of my UltraFab and have never had any issue with water intrusion. Something to consider.

I have a LCI 3,500 lb. I know my trailer tongue weight is will under 1,000 lb. But when I hook and unhook to my truck I leave the hitch ball connected and use the jack to raise the back of my truck, to take the weight off the round bar's on the hitch. Makes it easy to slide the round bar on and off without using the hand tool. That's how the Dealer showed me to hook up at the walk through.

My truck weight is 7,600 lb. plus what is in it. I'm rising maybe half that plus the tongue weight of the trailer. I'll be lucky to get three seasons out of my jack.

On a side note, I'm not lifting the trucks rear wheels off the ground, so it can't be half the trucks and I always fill my rear air bags in the truck when the ball is connected to help raise the rear of my truck.

Does all this make any scents to anyone but me?

Michol - question on your purchase...Should the fuse or unit fail, does it have a place for a manual hand crank on the head? I ask that cuz my original unit routinely blows fuses which are under the head cover and a pain to get at. So instead of replacing em I just hand crank her. I know I know I should run some wire from the head and put in an inline water proof holder. What I need is a new unit. Let me know how she works... I may just order one but want one with a manual back up crank. Tks

Yes, Mighty Ming, it came with a hand crank and a "key" that inserts into the casing to disengage the motor. It has an inline reset button that you install somewhere on the + wire. I plan on installing an ON/OFF switch on the + wire(just in case someone's tv remote triggers my jack at 3 in the morning).
