Propane Tank Covers

So I noticed the other day that the plastic cover for the Propane tanks just sits over them. I ended up putting a small bungee cord from one side to the other underneath in the middle as there was 2 small tabs with holes in them. Now if this is why those where there I'm not sure.

Question is what does everyone else do? Do you leave them on or take them off and if you leave them on how do you secure them to the trailer. I sure would hate to look in the mirror and see this black rocket ship take off between the truck and the trailer

They sit in there pretty tight and they shouldn't blow off. The last 2 trailers I had we went many miles with them and never had a problem. The only thing I hate about them is the seams as it's a great place to cut your fingers.

My Passport came with a small bungee cord that goes below the tanks, front to back.

They say they won't blow off but I put a small bungee on the same tabs. It only comes off if a tank is empty.

I lost that small door on top. Had to order a new one. I never use it, I pull the cover off when I want to get in there.

I know what you mean about that small door....lol I've been wondering just how long it might last on there. The two nuts that thread on seem to do ok and maybe the old ones just clipped in I dunno know.

We were told to secure the tank cover with a small bungee during our familiarity tour. We did (I crimped the hook on one end onto the tab) but have driven many miles since then and it hasn't moved an inch the whole time. As to the door on top we were told to keep it hinge forward, which we do.

Ours came with the little bungee cord, and in 5k mi it hasn't come off unless I take it off.

I also use a small bungee. One of the tabs split, so I drilled a hole near it. It's still working.

As for the little door on top, my PDI guy told me that it should secure at the rear. That way if the nuts loosen, airflow will keep that door closed and secured.

I too was told the cover wouldn't come off. Never has. But I did put a small bungee on just in case.

As for the door, it's useless as far as I'm concerned, my indicator faces the trailer and I can't see it through the door .

yeah I haven't put on my gauge to show level in tank. I just leave one off and when it runs out, turn on the other and get the empty one filled. figure it would be easier than having both run out in the middle of the night.

I wasn't told that about the door, but that's what I do also. It's just as easy to access the bottle valves. I only wish I could see the Tank gauge. Either way I install the regulator I still can't see it.

I also decided that having the regulator installed on the rear of the tanks (facing the front of the TT) could eliminate damage from road debris if the cover took a hit. I know it sounds crazy, but being in the military for 20 years I think like that. I make everything bomb proof, and ready for sea. LOL!

You can easily cut out an opening in the back of the cover to access the indicator.

I don't know about the damage part but I thought about turning my regulator/indicator around to the front but the economists at Keystone just made the hose long enough for the it to be at the back, to short to turn around......

I know I could cut a hole but then it would have a hole in it !

Well imagine a stone , rock, whatever highway debris flying off your tires, and nailing your regulator through that cheap plastic cover.

I've owned four pull trailers over the years and never had a cover blow off. So I don't think it is much of a worry and do nothing to secure it.

On my HTT it interfered break away switch and also hooking up my WDH so I took it off. My popup didn't have one, so what the heck.
