Increase fresh water capacity

Has anyone ever looked into increasing the fresh water capacity of their toy hauler? One option is to install an auxiliary tank in the bed of the truck, but I was wondering about installing a second tank or larger primary tank on the trailer itself. I've got a Raptor 381 and would love to have another 40-50 gallons.

I use a 45 gal water bladder and a standard on-demand water pump that I hook up to the city water connection and trailer battery when I go hunting.

With the bladder waste water becomes the issue so get a tote too.

You put that on top of the trailer or in the bed of the truck?

I would use the bed of the truck,I would think that would be to heavy for the roof.

I put it in the bed of the truck as it's too much weight to put any where else.

Howdy All;

Just to throw some fuel on the fire ...
water weighs 8lb. to the gallon (roughly).
50 gal. would come in at 400 lbs. now consider the footprint of the
container that you are going to place the water in.
A 55 gal. drum has a circular foot print that is 24" in diameter or roughly 3.14
square feet. 400 / 3.14 = 127.4 lb./sq. ft. That's upright. if you lay it horizontal
in a cradle, avg. drum is 34" tall
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/MAU...&cm_vc=IDPRRZ1
and weighs 24 #'s. a few 2X4's for a cradle and you add (with drum weight),
about 50 more lbs. so 450#'s / 7.39 sq. ft. = 60.9 lb./ sq. ft.
How much do you weigh when you place all of your weight on 1 foot??? and
that doesn't even cover a full sq. ft. ????
Of course I'm not recommending you tote a full drum on the roof, but just
to show it might be feasible.

Yes, but the total weight is a major concern, as a lot of RV roofs would have a problem with a 400lb person up there. Now consider the additional forces of accelerating, braking, cornering, and bumps, and it's a recipe for disaster.

If I were following someone with a 55-gallon drum strapped to his roof, I would make it my mission to pass him ASAP. Even if it were empty!

diugo, Howdy;

As I said in my opening statement, just tossin' more fuel on the fire...
It's not practical and most likely will get ya pulled over my the first Barney Phiffe you pass. Just showing that there isn't near as much weight /sq. ft.
as most folks think there is.
I'd most likely carry the extra water in the TH's garage. near the front,
and securely strapped in.

110 gal

my 3912 has plenty with 110 gallons. ive seen guys use those palleted totes for water containers and haul them in the back of their pickups. I would never put the water on top due to the instability caused by the weight and the movement of the water. ie you might flip your rig due to the motion of the water.

Those rooftop water bladders were designed, in my opinion, for moving water from the campground public water spigot to your rv site, slowly and carefully, not for haulin' butt down the freeway.
