Happijack Bunk Bed Question

Hello all,
I have a question about Happijack bunk beds. I have a 381 Fuzion w/ Happijack bunk beds. My unit has two air conditioners, one in the garage and one in the forward bed room. when the beds are up the top bunk mattress is up against the air conditioner dump. I would like to put the top bunk down about two feet (more head room) and the bottom bunk down to the floor. This would allow us to run the AC and use the bottom bunk to sit on. The only way i can see to do this is to drill holes in the track and use the pins to hold up the top bunk at the desired height or use some C-clamps. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to accomplish this or am I missing something?

Just by drilling the holes in a lower spot should do the trick.

I think the top bunk is a floater and sets on a stop in each track. The lower bunk is the driver and is connected to the drive chain. To get the upper one to go lower the stops would need to be relocated if possible or removed. The lower one should be set by the drive chain and would require lengthening the chain. At least how I remember the operation anyway.

This sounds like how I would describe the operation of the bunks in my 2012 Raptor

I only want to lower the top bunk enough for air to circulate from the AC. with the stops adjusted all the way up the bunk is to low and you are banging your head on it. The only way I can see to solve my problem is to drill the tracks or screw C-Clamps on the rail below the brackets to hold the bunk up.

I had a similar issue with my top bunk. I use it for storage when parked and with it pinned in the stowed position I had about 4" of clearance to the ceiling. I drilled new holes in the track about 2 foot down from the original holes and pin the upper bunk there while I'm parked. I end up with about 24" of storage space up there now. I can still pull the pins and raise the bunks up to the ceiling then replace the pins in the original position when traveling. Just remember to drill the holes as close as possible to the outer side of the track so that you don't interfere with the chain or lower bunk brackets.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't thinking about the outer side of the track. I always get that little sick feeling when I start modifing something brand new.

You can adjust the stops, just not high enough for how I'm using the bunk.

Sorry if I stated that wrong, but by outer I meant out, away from the wall, the same way the originals holes are drilled.

Drilled the tracks

Thanks all for the input. I drilled holes in the tracks today and it works like a charm.
