Both bone stock and with stock tires. The half ton was towing a 12 foot mower trailer with one zero turn and one walk behind. With a gate, usually never going over 60 to keep fuel mileage down. The 3/4 ton usually not towing , but when he did was either a cattle trailer , 20 ft. Or his fifth wheel weighing approx 7500 lbs, its a lighter one. Couldn't go 150 miles without filling his 35 gallon tank up towing. No mountains, on these trips either, keeping speeds down. Even had a new rental for the mowing trailer and was same way.
Both went to other brands. Mower trailer went to f.150 and getting 14 towing same load and speeds, 4.6 in the ford.
3/4 went to Chevy and is getting 18 empty , 12 towing

Only the 1500's have the optional MDS Hemi. 2500 and up all have the standard Hemi with no fuel saver modes. Were the replacement trucks using engines will economist or equivalent?
If I'm not towing with my ram 1500 I'm averaging around 20 combined highway/city driving. All highway gets me between 23-25 if I stay off the skinny pedal.

I've pulled with various combinations using three different trucks and two trailers. 10MPG towing MPH running 60-65MPH. Some get a little better with tweaks, whistles and bells, but I think that 10MPG would be a reasonable expectation and one that I would use for planning fuel stops..

Just went on my first trip, about 150 miles with a heavy head wind and averaged 61mph, (GPS) and got 10.1mpg (Onboard computer). My buddy avg 8.9 in his 06 hemi.
We started talking last night and he mentioned a friend of ours though who has a 2012 and is getting terrible mileage. Very unhappy with the truck and stated it was not as good as his 06. He stated it is going back to the dealer who said they had to flash something but if that does not fix it he is going ford. With that maybe there is an issue with some 2012s. I mean 4mpg even with a 2500 towing does not sound right let alone no load. I do not think you could force fuel through at that rate let alone burn it. 8 mpg in a 1500 maybe but not with the driving described so there has to be something wrong and it does not seem to be isolated. At the same time I know fokes with 12s and no issues.
Glad they fixed their issue though with a new truck. That's the great thing the market is fairly competitive right now and it's a buyers market.

Pulled our 32' trailer home today for 4 hrs at 100km/hr (almost 65 mph) averaged a computed 23.5L/100km. Ouch. I need a 2nd, tow-dedicated truck.

Gas mileage. 2011 dodge ram quad cab 5.7 hemi, we get about 8 mpg pulling ultra lite bullet 230bhs. Travel from FL to MN only got 6 mpg - terrible! We don't drive fast or jerky but get terrible mileage - a very big disappointment.

Guess my ram is special! 10-12 towing my Bullet 246rbs, even better if all highway. Slow down a bit, stay in tow/haul mode and avoid the cruise control. Oh and run 89 octane, like the ram owners manual recommends.

That's around 10mpg with that camper I think would be average.
@newlife,
You may want to get your truck checked out, should not be in that area unless your trip was up hill into a hurricane. I would not be happy with that mileage at all.
Plus 2 on the 89 octane.

Geez after reading some of these, 10mpg doesn't seem too bad to pull our beast.
Looking into the Diablosport tuner to pump it up a bit, but have always run 89oct as well.

06 dodge ram 1500 4x4 Laramie Hemi w/MDS
Just pulled our 2014 Cougar X-lite 32RBK 125 miles round trip this weekend here in the rolling hills of Kentucky...12.6mpg using Superchips handheld...towing download. A retune is worth the money...keeps you more in the "happy place" with our engines and 392 gearing...TT dry weight 7400 with camping supplies 7700-7800 lbs.

my '08 pulling a 2920bh Passport, the gauge says 10. realistically, more like 8 mpg. next truck will be have a Cummins Diesel under the hood

2012 1500 Laramie crew cab with 5.7 hemi 3.92 rear towing about 9400 lbs just short of 400 miles through slow rolling terrain at 60 to 65 mph = 9.6 mpg.
Truck is bone stock except air bags.

I can help a little bit.
I just purchased a 2013 Laramie 4x4 with towing/ 5.7l. I also purchased a 2014 bullet 281bhs.
I am using an Equal i Zer hitch setup.
I do not put anything in my payload (I.e. the bed of the truck when towing) My TT is most likely around 6000lbs when hitting the trail.
I consistently reset my stats before any trip I take. I live in lower alabama. I am not exactly going up and the rockies, but there is a lot of hills; both up and down.
I am averaging around 13.2 -13.6 mpg. I hope this helps.

I have a 2012 ram 5.7 hemi quad cab xpress, 3.55 axle ratio, getting around 20 avg on highway empty, pulling 2013 Laredo 275 bh 5th wheel getting 9-10
truck pull great, no complaints, but shoulda kept my Cummings...this was a trip from north east Texas to north west Illinois, to eastern Kentucky, Tennessee, and back to east Texas, so a variety of driving over about 3500 miles.. hope this helps

In South Florida the heat and humidity make gas milage suffer. I have a Cummins now but I did have a 2012 1500 big Horn quad cab 3.92 gears that pulled my 2013 Keystone Fuzion 301 (Fz301) at 9.5 mpg. With the 2013 2500 Cummins I pull the same trailer and get 12.5, both engines bone stock. How you drive has a lot to do with it. This weekend I pulled the trailer 160 miles to the Florida Keys for the weekend. I did 65 mph going south and got 12.5 mpg and on the way back I did 70 mph and got 10.5 mpg. The extra engine rpms and wind resistance add to the equation.
