Heat Pump

Hi all,
Last year we bought a 2013 Fuzion 381. It came with two AC units, one in the front and one in the garage. The AC unit in the garage also has a heat pump. This year it has been chilly high 40s and low 50s at night here in West Virginia. Last weekend we used our heat pump for the first time and I must say this thing works great. It heats our TH very even and it is quiet. When we use our LP furnace it is hot for a while then cold, this goes on all night long. Just wondering if everyone likes this as much as I do, I will never own another camper with out it

I really miss having a heat pump. When purchased the Vantage, inquired with the dealer as to whether it could be added (if can be added to the model of air conditioner in it) and all I got was a, "most people find them disappointing and I don't think you'd be happy with it". Told him we'd had one before and was quite happy with it and just got more argument against it from him. Um, so much for the upsell. Been meaning to call the mfg and see if it can be added, but just haven't done it yet.

Some of the upsells the dealer missed out on: slide out topper, heat add-on, 2nd air, hitch, 2nd battery and battery boxes, fans for two fan-less vents, vent covers. He had zero interest in upselling anything that required any labor. Was bizarre.

Edit - was thinking you were referring to the heat strip add-on (which I've often heard referred to as a heat pump). If not, oops!

Love our heat pump as well. BTW, the first time we used our furnace heater I went through the hot and cold stuff as well. Took me a little while to figure out the balance with the furnace and the 2 zone heating/cooling. What I found works well on ours is to set both zones for the temp I want and use auto. Our bedroom heats faster than the rest of the RV so the front AC will kick in. Not very efficient to have the furnace and AC both running, but it works. I'm planning to get vent covers for the heat ducts so I can close them off a bit and try to balance the furnace heat.

Are these real "heat pumps" or is it just an electric heat strip added to the A/C unit?

Mine is an actual heat pump. Much better than heat strips. Between the heat pump and the fire place I can keep our 40' 5er very comfortable down to 35 degrees. Probably colder, but that's the lowest I've ever used it.
