Sanitizing the fresh water tank/lines
Unless I'm just missing it (which is possible...), my new-to-me TH doesn't have a capped pipe that leads straight into my fresh water (FW) tank. All the other THs I've had over the years had that kind of access on one of the sides. The only way I see to add FW into my current TH is to hook up to the city water port in the water hook-up bay. In that bay, there's a valve labeled "power flush tank fill" and when I turn it to the "tank fill" position I can add water to the FW tank. That said, how do I now sanitize my FW tank?
I attempted to sanitize the FW tank by screwing a piece of hose with a male end into the city water port and pouring bleach down the hose through a funnel. The bleach wouldn't flow into the FW tank. I even filled the hose just short of full and tried to pressurize it by blowing into it, with no success. Any tips anybody can provide on how to do this will be greatly appreciated.
Steve

Lol, there's several identical threads on here. In short, there's a check valve in the city water inlet that requires water pressure and blowing into the hose isn't going to be enough. You can pour bleach solution into a hose and then connect the hose to the city water inlet and turn on the water - OR - There "should" be a "vent", usually on the door side of the trailer, that is for the fresh water tank. You can pop the rubber/plastic cover off and stick a piece of garden hose down it and pour bleach solution into the tank that way.
Apparently KS decided not having a gravity water fill on their newer trailers was a "feature upgrade".

Thanks canesfan. If there's a gravity-fill port on the camper, I can't find it. I'll look again though!

No, my point is there probably isn't a gravity fill, but there is a Vent. The vent hole will be covered by probably an upside down U looking flat piece of plastic/rubber and you can pour things into the tank through the vent. To remove it you pull apart the bottom edges slightly and slide it up. There is also probably a screen behind the cover that just pops out and pushes back in.

SJBrooks, Howdy;
During your walk through inspection at the dealership did they show you
where the water pump is located? One of the other newer members was
asking about sanitizing a week or 2 ago, seems he had a switch or valve
to direct water either to the rest of the RV or to the storage tank. A phone
call to your dealer's shop should have you in touch with someone that is
familiar with your RV and it's systems and should be able to answer your ?'s.

I think I would pick up a winterizing kit that has the hand pump. I would power fill the FW tank until it was about 1/2 full. I would then add the bleach with the hand pump. Then finish filling the tank with power fill.

sanitize
Possibly you could close tank valves and pour bleach in your sink, shower, toilet, and kitchen sink. To reach all 3 tanks if if you have 3 tanks. Then fill all tanks with water, let it sit a few hours -, drain some water to make room, then run all your spigots to sanitize the lines. Goodluck kip

Kippy,
I'm not following your suggestion. How would pouring anything in the "WASTE" water side introduce sanitizer into the "FRESH" water side?

I asked this question during the walk through on the Montana. I was told you could use a fertilizer type hose end mixer. Fill the canister with bleach and connect the output end to a hose to the fresh water connection. Then switch to tank fill.
I think using the pump and the winterize switch sounds easier.
I haven't tried either yet.

Update....I found and read the instructions on the door of the utilities "center" on how to sanitize. Pull the cover off the vent and use a funnel to pour bleach in the tank.
Worked !

Be careful pouring "straight bleach" down that vent. Bleach will dry out and damage the plastic tubing. Dilute it and then after you've poured it all into the tank, run some clear water down the tube to wash away all the strong bleach solution. It will only take 3 or 4 times of straight bleach on that plastic tube and you'll have problems in a couple of years with brittle plastic tubes and no way to access them to replace them without tearing the bottom off your RV...... And we all know that will never happen until after the warranty has expired......

When I did mine this weekend I mixed the bleach in a 2 liter soda bottle with water and then poured it in. Didn't need a funnel, either.

I "burped" it pretty good when I topped the tank off with the power fill. But I need to drain the tank today. I'll run some fresh water down the vent when I do that. Good thinking, thanks!
