Winter parking

The 5th wheel is parked on gravel. Is it better to just leave it parked on the gravel, or park it on a more solid surface like a 2 x 12?

If the gravel is on a solid base, it's pretty much your preference. As I said in another post here just yesterday, old timer RV folk like to put their tires up on boards if they're parking on concrete. The concrete is supposed to leach chemicals out of the rubber. I've never heard that about gravel. My yard is sandy soil and everything sinks into it. My tires are on boards as are the stabilizers and the landing gear. Spreads the weight out so it doesn't sink very much.

One other point... If you use a single long board that both tandems go up on, there's a risk that it could flip up and damage the underside of your trailer. I've always used one shorter board per tire to avoid that problem. Mine are 2x10's about 18" long and cut at a 45° angle at both ends. I carry a bunch of them for leveling up the trailer side to side on uneven campsites.
