2020 Laredo 298SRL

We just bought this unit and the backup camera never turns off. I was told it should only come on when the park lights are on.

Any thoughts on this

The wiring for the rear view cameras seems to be a crap-shoot. Some are wired to the running lights. Some are wired to the back-up lights. I've heard of some being wired to always be on, but I just don't see how they did that. In the trailer wiring, the only always-on line is the charge line. Perhaps they connected it to the 12v system inside the trailer? Strange.

One option would be to rewire the camera to get power from a near by marker light.

It’s always on in my 2019 Alpine too.

Is it on only when connected to the tow vehicle, or on anytime the trailer has power (either via coach batteries or shore power)?

I asked the Alpine area rep about it on my Alpine and they asked engineering. In my case it is intended to be on always so you can use it as an observation/security camera too. I’m going to change mine when I get the chance.

If my mind is working right this morning I remember when Furrion issued a notice that the camera wasn’t receiving the “full” voltage needed and customers were complaining of poor picture quality. Not so sure that’s still the case, as I know the Grand designs dealer I worked at it was the same crap shoot.

Unless you have an Observation camera, mines stay on all the time and that's is how I like it, going down the road I having seeing who coming up behind me. The back up camera only comes on when you put it in reverse.

Got a Larado 225MK. Just put a Haloview camera on and found out there is power to it all the time. I really do not want the camera on all the time. Has anyone got a fix.

I can pul the accessory fuse and kill power to the camera but that also shuts down other things

Steve,

If the power wire and ground to the camera mount is a branch line from that accessory fuse, buried inside the trailer walls, then probably the easiest and most sure way to modify your camera mount to have power only when you want it on would be to remove the camera mount from the rear trailer wall, locate the hot lead, cut it and install a switch in that line. You could drill a hole into the trailer interior and mount the switch inside your trailer, either under a cupboard, in a cabinet or on the rear wall (if you really want to spend the time to fish wires down the "hung back wall" (unlike the side walls, the rear wall is not laminated on your trailer.

Does the back of the trailer have running/marker lights? Can you get power for the camera from one of these lights? Then the camera would be operational only when the running lights are on.

The trailer has a rear bathroom. Could put a switch in the ceiling or maybe in the medicine cabinet. Working on this. Would love to see how these things are put together.

There is a marker light above the camera. Would like to keep it on the circuit it is on and not put a load on the lighting circuit. This is a option.

The marker light circuit isn't going to care - this is how most trailers are wired anyway.

My 2019 315rls Cougar's rear view camera is factory wired to the 12v light circuit that feeds to the interior lights over the rear couch. I removed one of the led lights and found the wire going to the camera and installed a switch in the bottom of the over head cabinet. It works really good except when I forget to turn it on before I put the slides in. We also installed the side view marker light camera's with a seperate switch wired to both the camera leads, the running lights are wired to the 12v marker light circuit. We can bring our monitor into the 5ver and use all the cameras as an observation/security system. So far they all work really good.
