We drove up to Door county from High Cliff S.P. around the top of lake Winnebago. We didn't stay up on the peninsula there, just did a day trip up to Sturgeon Bay and Egg Harbor. So can't help with a referral for the park you mentioned, but High Cliff was OK.
The only thing I'd mention about the top of Lake Winnebago, was passed on to me by a local in Oshkosh. He said that the storms form near the bottom of the lake and go up one side or the other of the lake. Then they meet up at the top of the lake. He said that in the winter, if they get an inch of snow at Oshkosh, they get like 9 inches up near the top of the lake.
While we were at the Oshkosh airshow, on the Saturday night we counted 4 thunderstorm cells formed down South east of the lake and proceeded up the Eastern side of the lake, all in the space of about 4 hours.
