Bumper cargo carrier
I have attached a 2" receiver (500 lb capacity) on my 5th wheel 4" square bumper and will use a cargo carrier with also a 500 lb capacity. I'm guessing the bumper will handle it. Am I wrong?

Most likely yes, I would not. Hang anything from a stock trailer bumper!

If you're referring to a "bolt on" RV bumper receiver hitch, I would be very cautious of utilizing it for loads greater than 100 lbs. Some of the bumper hitches indicate capacities between 350 and 500 lbs. The problem is not the hitch failing. The problem (or risk) is the failure of the "thin sheet metal" bumper the hitch is secured to. The frame rail mounting points can seperate (from the bumper) with enough weight (or rotational torque) applied by the cargo carrier.
Best practice for mounting a receiver hitch on the back of a trailer would be to have a welding shop fabricate (and/or weld) a traditional tubular reciever hitch directly to the frame rails. Much safer for your trailer, your cargo, and those sharing the roadway.

I would not bolt anything to the stock bumper. They are very thin and not very strong. I have seen lots of them ripped off because of items bolted to them. If your going to put anything on the rear bumper have it reinforced before you do anything.

If you do a search on the forum for "receiver hitch 5th rear bumper" you'll get lots of information on your question. Here is one link that includes some good info.
