Charger replacement
Has anyone found a better converter to power the lights and charge the battery. I have the WFCO 55 amp . It seems it is pretty standard fare for the RV world. When I called to get a replacement I was told " lots in stock as these go all the time " I found this a bit troubling as they are a bit pricey up here in the great white north ... Wonder how often others have had to replace their charger.

Re: Charger replacement
Same brand, but a 100 amp. It made it 3 years from date of manufacture. $400 or so to get another one FedEx.

Re: Charger replacement
I used the same WFCO 55 with no problems, but....I did add a TrueCharge 2, to give me a better equalizing cycle when needed. Along with a TriMetric Battery Monitor and solar controller.

If you're looking to convert to Lithium, LiFePO4, check out Progressive Dynamics.

Re: Charger replacement
I bit the bullet and went with the original equipment simply because I wanted to put it to bed . The local RV store had stock..
Thanks everyone for your input. Having a forum like this make life a lot easier ..

Let us know how things work once you've got the converter changed out and the trailer plugged in. Hopefully you'll get full battery power once again !!!

Re: Charger replacement
Charger replaced .. Full power all is good.. Next project will be adding an additional battery.. I think for back up. Going to add a switch so it will be one or the other. And just take turns with the two batteries.. Having both together would require bigger converter and larger gauge wire. I need to see how I use the trailer.. If we end up doing a lot of dry camping then that will change how I look at this .. Again thank you everyone for your help..

Re: Charger replacement
I have two batteries with the factory converter. We often install a second battery and only use larger cable between batteries.
If you do add a second battery, your current converter will work just fine.

Re: Charger replacement
If you use two 12V batteries make sure you connect the cables from the coast to different batteries to balance the resistance in the connections. No need to use larger wire between the batteries that is already used to them unless you plan to add more equipment such as an Inverter.
