Newbie ? - water in toilet bowl?
After setting up trailer and getting ready to use the potty, is there supposed to be water in the toilet bowl ( like toilets at home) or is it supposed to be dry? I am confused. We noticed that water would continue to trickle into the toilet bowl after flushing for maybe 30 secs or so, but nothing stays in the bowl. We r taking it in on Thursday for a couple of minor shake down repairs so thought I had better ask this question before it goes in. Have tried searching this question, but so far have turned up nothing. Thanks!

Yes, when the door/valve closes there should be water in the base of the toilet. It creates a vapor proof seal. It sounds like your toilet base valve isn't sealing completely and is allowing this water to drain.

Yes some water should remain in the bowl but not like at home. Usually you have to hold flush lever down just a little to add some once flushed. It should stay in the bowl, if not the seal needs adjustment or cleaning. Leaving some water in bowl keeps fumes from entering trailer. Since it will be in for service, have the dealer check it. I occasionally have the same problem with my Dometic 310 seal. I don a rubber glove, get out the vaseline and apply a coat of it along the edges of the black rubber seal. I also pry the edges of the seal up and down with my fingers to loosen up the seal. This seems to work for me. I've had to do this a few times in the year I've owned it since new.
Who said owning an rv isn't glamorous.

Just another take on this delightful topic I have found in hot weather it pays to add a little extra water between uses as the water will evaporate although this does not seem to be your specific issue. You can add water by simply applying a small amount of presure to the pedal after all waste has been removed. I will mine up with at least a gallon of water when its going to be out of use for a week or more.

When that happens to us we pour some dish washing soap into the bowl to lub the seal. Happens after sitting for a long time.
