Towing with a Taco
I have a 2018 Tacoma with the tow package (6800 lb towing capacity). I also have a Bullet 1800RB TT (4400 lbs wet). I haven't pulled it much yet only home from the RV dealer. I live in Big Bear Ca at 6800 ft elevation. I pulled the trailer empty (3300 lbs) up Onax summit (8500 ft elevation) on the way home from the dealer. The Taco didn't even know it was there, 65mph, I didn't want to go any faster, but I still had plenty of throttle in 5th gear (AT). I think I should be fine with it. I have the WDH installed and I'm thinking about air bags, although the Taco hitched up really didn't sag much. I just want a good ride. I would appreciate any suggestions on the air bags or whatever.

Here is what I would do... loaded up with passengers and camper, do your headlights stay within specifications as to not blind oncoming traffic. If ok do nothing, if high you may want some suspension add on's to level it out.

If your truck/trailer combo can't be set so you don't sag appreciably it can be either a maladjusted WDH or weak springs due to overload. Air bags can compensate (maybe) for the latter but won't fix the overload situation.
With your Tacoma (27X hp/26xft.lb. torque?? [memory]) when pulling 4400 lbs. you most certainly know that it is back there. I have a 4runner with about the same engine specs and I don't want anything behind it more than a 10' utility trailer with some "stuff" on it; I wouldn't dream of towing a 4400 lb. trailer behind it. Not putting your rig down, just trying to put a little reality into the equation. And, if you are pulling 4400 lbs. up any kind of grade that V6 will think it's going to explode - got one, had 2 others and bought one for my dad. Again, just trying to keep things realistic.
I would say to check your weights. Look at the driver door and see what the weight placards say; what IS your payload (won't be a lot), gawr, gvw etc. It would be helpful it you gave the exact model/specs on your truck (2wd/4wd/CC etc.) - we can help with numbers if needed possibly. They would be generic but would shed a little more light.
I'm wondering what kind of "good ride" you are looking for in a Tacoma? All I've ever been in rode as rough as my HD...and a lot more "squirrely". Air bags might fix the exhibited problem(s) but I doubt they will fix the "root issue".

I just got back up the hill again fully loaded this time, including water tank. I didn't notice much of a difference, still 65 mph in 5th gear. There isn't much of a sag at all, I don't think I'll need the air bags.

Happy, happy, happy!! If I were you I would at least look at the weights, and more importantly, hit a scale for peace of mind and the safety of yourself, family and others.

Well my Taco is actually heavier than a Ford F150, and with the turbo has more torque and horsepower!

I don't think any of us can make a "prediction" about any one truck to compare with any other "one truck".... The range of weights appears to be "generally within gray areas" with the "trend toward F150's being heavier" however when considering towing characteristics, there's far more to a 'good tow vehicle" than being heavier than some other brand. I wouldn't criticize any vehicle without knowing enough about it to make an assessment, however, I own a 2015 F250 diesel and I can assure you that if I towed a 4500 pound trailer "up a hill" I'd know it's behind my truck....

On a more pleasant note (More pleasant than truck statistics anyway ), did you unhook and take the family over Skyline Drive in the same area? Man, what a rush for the whole family! As is the footbridge over the Arkansas River at Royal Gorge of course....

Gary sounds like you have it dialed in.Just had to mention though, @ 15,500 that would make the "pass" about 1,800 ft higher than the surrounding mountains.
As a Coloradian I can confidently state that W.C. pass is 10,856.
BUT your trucks performance is still impressive.

Not to be a douche but toyota does not offer a turbo 3.5 v6 engine in the tacoma.

If that is true, this would not be the first time, that I heard of a person saying their truck/car had this or that or this model or that. And they really did not know on purpose or by mistake.
