Actual weight of household goods

We have finally made the move to sell our Raptor and buy another brand. I'll cover this in another post maybe tomorrow. What we did was fill the TV with diesel, empty and rinse all holding tanks (fresh water has never been used) and head to the CAT scales in Wisconsin. Below you will see the results of that ticket. When we arrived home we completely emptied the RV, filled the TV with diesel and drove over the CAT scales in Memphis. I also am posting that ticket. Keep in mind that the Harley with side car, three helmets and miscellaneous goodies weighs 1,060 pounds so subtract that from the original total. Gross weight 24,000 pounds even. Subtracting the 22,180 from the end ticket means we have collected and been hauling around 1,820 pounds, give or take a little. We virtually never haul wet and we never, but never, haul with the fridge empty. If I break down I want a cold one waiting on the wrecker. I also posted a picture of what 1820 pounds of "stuff" looks like stacked on a utility trailer.

Jim,

Your post is a timely reminder of just what we typically "pack with us" when we use our RV. I made a post just a bit ago saying that "most of us have 1000-1500 pounds of cargo, camping equipment, food, clothing, etc and that with "cargo creep" that could go higher... Looks like your cargo "creeped" up there a little bit.

Looking forward to hearing about your new rig. Congratulations.

John's right. I think some may not really recognize the amount of stuff we accumulate in our RVs. I know I don't look forward to unloading ours....it will be like moving out of a S&B.....almost.

Jim, I'm assuming the commode liner thing caught on and now you're in high cotton, but you can still hang out here and chew the fat with us Keystone folks

That's for sure. I sold my Jayco a few months before my current purchase was completed. Put everything in a spare bedroom. Now 5 years later, I still have "stuff" that didn't fit.

The thing I find interesting, other than all of the cargo, is that 40 lbs difference on the drive axle created 180 lbs of difference on the steer axle.

When the 2 girls were teenagers we packed light and came close to 1450# in a 28' TT. Now a 43' 5er, just the 2 of us and ~~ about 1600. Should be less but could have a little to do with packing wife's cast iron cook ware, sewing machine, and more. She figures with just the 2 of us now there is no reason to watch. Besides it has so much more room to store things.

ADD ~~ just found out we "need and must have" separate washer/dryer installed before leaving for FL ~~ another 200+ #.

Brent, a couple years ago I made trips across the CAT scales trying to figure the real balance with the bike in the trailer and the bike out of the trailer. About all I figured is that the thousand pounds of bike only transferred about 175 pounds or so to the drive and little or nothing to the steer. I became confused and went home to the patio and a cold one.

Maybe if I had an engineering degree instead of project management it would all make sense.
