I use it all the time towing.
My 2014 Express 3500 6.0 also has automatic grade braking.

100% when towing. Once I turned off the tow/haul setting while towing my camper and watched the tranny temp. It got progressively higher. Switched the tow/haul back on and it began to drop. Heat is a tranny's worst enemy.
