Air Conditioner Blowing hot air
I have a 2012 Cougar 5th wheel and the air conditioner in the bedroom is blowing hot air. It worked fine last summer and I turned it on for the first time this summer and cannot get it to blow cold air. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it is NEW A/C time. That held up well. We had one less than a year old die and fortunately it was still under warranty. That one is still working great.

Hello and welcome!
As Marshall mentioned, make sure the thermostat is selected to "cool".
If the compressor is not operating, might be the a problem with the thermostat, or the start capacitor in the AC unit. Low refrigerant is a possibility, which would mean replacement time.
Good luck on the repairs!

If the compressor is operating and it’s not getting cool, your going to need a new AC unit.

What would be an average price for a new one?

What is up there now? If it’s a Dometic, I’m hearing good things about Furrion and some are “plug and play”.

I just installed an AC, but you have to remember there is the "external" unit and then all the "internal" components (thermostat, venting, etc). So to make it cost effective you might want to replace the external unit and reuse the internal parts as it adds a good amount of cost.

You need to know brand, size (btu) and model number and answers can be more specific. Compatibility of the roof top unit and the controls inside is required. Replaced a 15k Dometic single zone in March and the cost with shipping was $2200 IIRC.

Is the BTU value label on the rooftop unit? I've always wondered if I have the 13,500 or optional 15,000 BTU unit.

Best get up on the roof if you can't stand the curiousity:

The information for your particular unit should be inside the shroud.

Thank You.
I try to take pictures of the data plates when possible in the event there’s an issue, so I don’t have to scramble to find it when I’m already stressed about the issue.

My cousin has a Heatland North Trail camper and about 2 years ago had an A/C that did not work. I replaced the relay board on the roof unit and now works. It was not hard to get to. I replaced it from inside the camper. Now on my Keystone Hideout, the a/C started to work intermittently, but if I tap on the box that has the circuit board and relays, it will started working. I will replace the board on mine also. I recommend looking for that box which I can see on the intake side, I believe, and tap on it. Both units are Dometic..

Yeah that’s the problem ..unless you have a refrigeration background with tools and knowledge it would cost more to pay someone to repair then it’s worth. …if you do know someone that can braze an access fitting and charge it or repair a component for $100 and a six pack then it’s fixable in most cases..I just pulled my entire refrigerant circuit out of my norcold fridge on my boat and brazed a fitting on. …..if I have to charge it occasionally that’s no problem for me

Here’s a common reason for the compressor not working. It’s a limit switch located on the compressor top under a Bakelite cap. Its job is to cut the power to the compressor should an overload occur. This particular one was a no brainer to diagnose. Another common issue is the start capacitor internally shorted.
It’s far easier to do a little bit of investigating before condemning the unit.
