Special E fuse
I was looking behind the switch panel today for no reason other than to see what was there. There I found a fuse holder for the awning LEDs. Being the inquisitive individual I am, I opened the fuse holder and saw something I had never seen before. I was baffled when a saw what looked like a standard ATO fuse with and E stamped on top. Hmmm.
So off to the Littlefuse website I go, searching diligently for this special E fuse. Then it hit me. You dummy. It's a 3 amp fuse.
In my 55 years of working on automobiles, heavy equipment, and aircraft I've never seen a 3 amp ATO fuse.
Now I have. I'm laughing at myself...

Hehehe! I found a the same 3 amp fuse for the single light in our pass through. I have only seen that small of a fuse in the old Buss style fuses. Have not looked at the wiring yet to see why...

Hopefully you replaced that pesky, easily blown fuse with a 30 amp before reassembly.

Hopefully not. I’ve watched awning LEDs catch fire, so 3 amps and no bigger please.

Ha, ha! Reminds me of my brother-in-law, he went to the movies when the movie 300 was playing. He asked the ticket agent for tickets to the movie "Zoo".

The 3 amp fuse in the holder on mine is for the awning lights only.....the awning itself has it's on fuse.

I've never seen an "E". There is however an "S" fuse in my spare fuse assortment.

Many years ago while working for a DOD repair facility - to remain un-named - I had a government inspector reject an assembly for having a 3/4 amp fuse in place of a .75 amp fuse! True story!!!

What a coincidence! I retired from Fed service as a government inspector at a DOD repair facility. But I didn't reject a product unless I had a "set in stone" defect that couldn't be corrected expediently. And in the world of government inspectors, some have limited experience in the skill set required to accept the product being presented. It's unfortunate for the suppliers but it's the nature of the beast.
However, all quality inspectors should have a working knowledge of basic math.

. . "should have" is the operative wording here, and the vast majority inspectors do. However, many times "In-process inspections" are done by lower grade personnel with minimal training and/or "on-the-job" training. These persons are usually very good at spotting mechanical or solder deficiencies but are unfamiliar with schematics or component labeling. That level of inspection was usually done at "Final Acceptance Inspection and Verification" where the equipment was compared to the engineering prints for compliance and tested for operational readiness. The individual I referred to was a GS12 Electronic Engineering Tech and responsible for Final Acceptance Inspection and therefore "should have" known better!! She was subsequently relieved of that responsibility and sent back to the Engineering Lab, presumably for retraining.
