Refrig light bulb

Dometic DM 2652 Americana Double Door.
I've looked and looked for the bulb in the refrig. No joy.
I can't read the number on the bulb, I can see that there is something written there but even with a magnifier I can't make it out.

OK, not a huge issue but my wife would like the light to come on when she opens the door.

Any clue as to model bulb?

The bulb is a standard "10 watt tube bulb" and is available at WalMart in the automotive section in a 2-bulb blister pack. It's about $3 for two bulbs vs going to a RV parts store and buying a $10 "Dometic bulb"....

First, I'd ask if you're sure the bulb is burned out or if there might be a problem with the switch or wiring to the light fixture. If it's just the bulb, I'd suggest removing it, taking it with you to WalMart and comparing it to what is hanging on the rack. There are two sizes at most WalMarts, so if you have the bulb with you, you're sure to get the correct size.

If you haven't removed the lens from the light assembly, it slides backwards toward the rear of the refrigerator cabinet. Don't try to pry it off or snap it out of the fixture, just grasp the lens on top/bottom and slide it toward the rear.

The "official Dometic part is: 2007290006 which equates to a "12 volt tube bulb, 10 watts, 1 11/16" long, 3/8" diameter"

I put a volt meter across the bulb contacts and the switch works.
JRTJH, thanks for the help. I am surprised it's a standard bulb rather than something the RV industry can over charge for.

Just because it's a standard bulb doesn't mean the RV industry WON'T over charge for it. They do come in different watt ratings but shouldn't make a big difference. LED replacements are also available but for my $$ the juice isn't worth the squeeze to justify the cost difference.
If you drink adult beverages and can't replace the light bulb before traveling then you could stock up with bottled beer as you can identify the desired drink by feel.

For goodness sake, I'm a retired engineer!

Bought new bulbs from Walmart. Thanks.
I turn on the frig and without a bulb I read 12.97 V with my VOM.
Press in the door switch and the voltage drops out.
Put in a new bulb and zip. Other new bulb and still zip.
Come on, I have voltage and a good bulb, it should work.

And yes, with the bulb in there is 0 voltage across the terminals.

Did you read across the bulb fixture, one side to the other, without the bulb - or is that where the 12.97 volts comes from? Known good bulbs (checked end to end = resistance), right voltage, correct wattage? Something is wrong with the fixture contacts for the bulb seemingly.

The power for the light/door heater circuit comes from connector J2 on the circuit board in the rear. Power to that connector comes from a 3Amp glass cartridge fuse located on the circuit board. You might have an issue with either power or the ground in that circuit. If you have the parts diagrams, there is a wiring schematic on the last page. If not, you can download it here:

Sometimes festoon light bulbs can be touchy about making contact. I've had to rotate them in place in order to get the contacts to make a connection. Also had to bend the spring clips in a little as well.

LED fix

I had the refridgerator light going off intermittently and finally figured out that the long filament in the bulb was detached at one end and would light up when gravity dropped it on the terminal and go off when gravity pulled it down. I had no luck finding the correct bulb where I was but i had a 12v LED disk that I had picked up somewhere in a clearance bin. Soldered it onto the bulb and it works like a charm and runs cool.

The cheap bulbs from Walmart don't seem to work. Got the LED version off of ebay and it works great! About $9, very bright and worth it. It is also very cool running whereas the original bulb ran fairly hot and caused some discoloration. Search for RV LED refigerator bulb.
