Water heater anode after 2 years

The used anode was installed 2 years ago. New one next to it for comparison. (mainly to show any newbies why we replace anodes).

What’s wrong with the lower one? It’s got 40% of its life left. LOL

Anodes should be an annual thing. I’ve seen just the wire center left after a couple years in some. Thanks for posting the pic.

I spent the majority of one year in W TX with this water and the anode was gone completely in a year. Spend the majority of time in other places and they look about like that one but I replace them yearly anyway.

They do go quickly. I was surprised after about 15 months what ours looked like with “lite” use of the wh. Click image for larger version

Boy they sure don't make anodes like they use to. lol

Great pics and info folks, thanks for taking the time.

Anybody have advice for the use of water softeners in conjunction with changing anodes?

I'm still using the same anode (the original that came with my camper) for over 5 years now. It doesn't seem to show any signs of decay worthy enough for replacement yet. In all my previous trailers, I had to swap them out every year. This one has me puzzled, but it seem to be hanging in there.

My rule of thumb its, when the wire gets exposed, it's time to replace.
