Holman Motors experiences

I currently live in GA and looking at a new Avalanche 5th wheel for sale at Holman Motors in OH because they seem to have the best prices within a 400 mile radius. Anyone have any purchase experiences?
Thnaks!

If you live in GA and buy an RV in OH, chances are very good that should you need warranty service, dealerships near your home (ones you bypassed at purchase) will refuse to provide warranty service. In the RV industry, there is no "requirement" that all dealerships must service the brand. Dealerships are not required to even return your calls to discuss making an appointment for service.

So, go into negotiations for the purchase price with the understanding that "after the sale" dealer support will be "400 miles from home". You might get lucky and find a dealer near your home that will accept your trailer for service and you may find an independent RV repair service that has approval from Keystone to provide warranty service.

Just be aware that the RV industry is not like the automobile/truck industry and just because there's a Keystone RV sign out front doesn't mean that dealership will even talk to you about service unless you bought your RV from them.....

Welcome to the forum

I have no personal experience with the dealer you are asking about. But I want to make you aware that if you buy from one dealer, the others DONT have to do any warranty work on it. Its not like the auto industry, The dealers can pick and choose the lines of RV's that they sell and its only limits are geographical. They are under NO OBLIGATION from the factory to do any warranty work and some dealers don't even service their own customers. Might want to think about it before you drive any distance to save money on the purchase as it might cost more in the long run to take it back in for service.

I see John is up and beat me to the keyboard this morning

OP, realize that what has been said in the previous posts is why those dealers "far away" are willing to sell at a lower price; they don't have to put up with the hassle of returned warranty work and the lower rates paid to fix them. A big plus for them so they can shave that price knowing they're not going to be stuck holding the "warranty" bag; someone else is.....and that someone is you.

As naive as it sounds, I would talk to a salesman from a dealer near you about pricing on the rig you like, what's their best price. Once they know that's the trailer you want and they have your name number, you will be getting calls from said salesman wanting to sell you that trailer.
As long as you have no illusion about what would happen if warranty work needed done, you have to just live with it.
I would badger the dealer near you for better pricing. Be prepared to walk away empty handed. Or, buy used and not worry about warranty work.

I looked at a couple 5th wheels at Holman Motors but ended up buying from Colerain RV for the floorplan. Holman is a huge dealership that sells cars, trucks and RV's. They must be OK to deal with since they are so huge. As others said, you could use their price as leverage to a more local dealer. If you do end up buying from Holman, ask for TJ Hudak if he is still there and mention my name Bruce Mulholland.

I bought mine from them 10 years ago. Then they where good to deal with and saved $5k than anybody around. It was worth the 300 mile trip. I still have the same camper today.

We lived in Northern Ohio and bought our current RV from Holman RV whale in Florida. Sounds complicated here is the deal, we saw the Laredo at Lazy Days in Tampa and the wife said that is the one, so we got a price (in writing including trade in) and indicated we needed a day or two to think about it. That night the wife found a identical unit at Holman RV and solicited a price with trade in, they responded with a written proposal that was considerably less money. We took that proposal back to lazy days and presented it to them. Remember, they openly advertise they will match any competitors price. Needless to say they declined and sent us on our way. We then sent Holman a deposit, added the accessories we wanted and arraigned a pick up date. No surprises when we arrived, transaction went smoothly.

2 1/2 years ago Holman was in a Expansion mode and I think they were highly discounting units to build there base and name recognition. At the time they just finished there new RV facilities, really nice facilities.

You are the exception to the rule.

What I’ve seen recently is the dealers in IN and OH are able to cut costs because they don’t have the long distance delivery fees. I haven’t seen that difference be $5k. In some cases large volume dealers are able to reduce their profit because they have a high unit turnover rate. Let us know what you decide and please post pictures. We will be here to help if we can in the future.

We bought ours from Camping world about 120 miles from home. Local dealer wouldn’t even touch the price, let alone have the selection.

When warranty work was needed, they said they only work on what they sell. So I called up their lot that services other brands 15 miles from home, they said bring it in.

To me it’s 50/50. A 1 year warranty means nothing to me. We had major issues with slide out rams,, so I was glad we had the warranty for the year, but what if it was just minor stuff? I guess I could have fixed them. So much info here and you tube. But I will say this, and it could be just me and my silly observations: I think these high dollar dealers have just slightly off trailers. What I mean is that the fit and finish seems even more sub par than normal. Just the trailers I went through with camping world looked beat up

Here is my experience twice.
May 2015 we bought a new Thor Hurricane 34E MH, we live near Denver CO and went to the CW in Longmont (north of us) and
found the MH wife wanted $120K.

Came home and started looking on line and found the same MH
at Motorhome Specialist in Alvarado TX, went down there and paid
about $20K less and brought it home.

I contacted one of the three CW dealers in our state (only Thor dealers
in state) about warranty work, service manager said yes, but he works
on units sold at his store first and other after.
I never had to wait more than a month to get a appointment for warranty
or I pay work.

Sold MH in April 2018 and in October 2018 we went looking for a 5th wheel
trailer. Wife settled on the Cougar 30RLS 34 foot.

Looked at the Keystone dealers in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah all were
very proud of their $50K plus pricing, so I looked elsewhere and found the
CW in Rapid City SD had the unit we wanted and was willing to make a better
deal in October. I paid $17K less than I would have in CO. I guess the selling
season in SD if over by October.

I've had it into both CW and Windish RV in Fountain CO for warranty work
and both times good service.

I’ve bought 2 trailers from Holman. My oldest son has bought 2 from them, and my youngest son has bought 1 from them. Yes it was worth the drive for all of us for the money we saved. Great people to deal with.

I found the travel trailer I wanted at CW near Rapid City. I ended up going with Holman. CW would not ever return my call to make a counteroffer. Holman was great, $6000 cheaper and a newer year. I highly recommend TJ as a salesman. He responds quickly to my inquiries even two years after I bought the trailer. My only complaint is I had the trailer delivered halfway and the trailer showed up eight hours late. I could have gone all the way to Ohio to pick up the trailer. A contracted delivery so what can you do?

Holman RV Purchase

We bought a Laredo 5th wheel about 9 yrs ago. We lived in California at the time and we saved thousands even after delivery to Utah. The deal went super smooth. They were always happy to answer questions and send us any specs and documentation we needed. Everything was in order when delivered. There was a recall and a minor item needing warranty work, but Holman actually helped us arrange to get that taken care of at a local dealer. No other problems on that trailer. We enjoyed it for many years. But, I am not sure I would do it again now as I believe the quality of RV builds has gone downhill quite a bit since then.
