3500 watts is needed to run the AC. It’s the start up of the compressor that draws the most. Some members have installed a “soft start” kit and used smaller gens, and some members have claimed their 2000 watt gen ran the AC.

If the compressor is started with insufficient power, it will cause premature wear and failure. Think about your car/truck and making it start from a stop light in 3rd or 4th gear, it will and it will get up to speed eventually, but how much stress are you putting it under and how many times can you do that before it quits?

3500 watts isn’t really that much, and if your concerned with the weight, get a pair of 2000 watt gens and Tether them together.

I haven't purchased one yet, but my buddy has one and works well. He also saw many being used at Dover Speedway and they were quiet and running the ac and lighting. It has a 30 amp plug.

The Harbor Freight Predator 3500 is usually on sale for $699. The Fourth of July sale had a (Inside Track Club) 20% off coupon (that included all the brands usually excluded on HF coupons) which brought the Predator down to $615. They wouldn't deduct the 20% from the sale price of 699 (would have been $559, rather they deducted the 20% from the 769 regular price and sold it for $615.

So, if you're shopping for that specific generator and can wait for a sale, watch the options.
