See. I like a Raddler. But it has to be hot out and I have to be thirsty. Now I'm settling back into Porters. Just have to watch as some of them I like are 8%. Sleeman Porter comes to mind. Made the mistake once

Not at my house! Bought a 12 pack of Coors Lite for guest earlier this summer and dumped one the other day and took the remaining 7 to a friends house yesterday to get rid of them before heading South next week.

Yeah I can’t get into the buds/coors.

I’m the weirdo here (of course). Never have been able to get past the smell of beer, much less tolerate the taste. But when DH worked at Cornell a couple of years ago, we did a wineries tour one weekend. One of them made a hard cider that tasted good. Sometime in the future, I do want to go back and get another bottle of Warthog. Yum!

My son-in-law likes to get me to try his IPA's and laughs when I screw my face up due to that nasty bitter bite. There was an IPA my daughter likes which was actually not bad, but I can't remember the name of it. I prefer clean tasting Heineken, St. Pauli Girl and Dos Equis Amber in the summertime and rich tasty dark beers in the winter. Best beer I ever had was a dark with Vietnamese coffee. It started out thick and rich, then transformed into a pleasant hint of berry flavor and faded out with a true coffee taste. Fabulous! Have never found an equal to that one. So, you can guess I'm not much for light beers (nothing there) and as someone else posted, Budweiser gives me a headache. Whatever is in there doesn't like me!

I love most IPAs but some are too sweet. I really don't have much of a sweet tooth, especially with alcohol. Can't stand things like whiskey and coke. I'll take a whiskey and club soda (notice I said CLUB soda because if I just say "soda" 90% of time I get 7up.... YUK!)

I normally just drink lighter beers. A lot of the Mexican beers are pretty good... except Corona. I think they spend all their money on advertising and making beach umbrellas. Pacifico & Modelo are my favorites. I'll do Budlight over Coors but either will do in a pinch.

Here in Oregon we kind of started the "micro-brew" thing about 30 years ago. I like a lot of them but the market is totally over-saturated and a lot of brewers are just trying too hard to churn out something to get noticed. I don't need, "screaming whore peach oatmeal hazy purple zinger ale." Just a good golden ale or IPA is great. The micros do have a lot higher alcohol and calorie content so I usually can't do more than 1 or 2... then it's back to the "piss beer" as many call it.

One last note on beer... and this is especially important while RVing/Camping. It had better come from a cooler or something similar that has it submerged in ice. I can't stand warm, warm-ish or anything other than ICE COLD beer (sorry to my German friends).

Almost forgot... Heineken is the gold standard. There's nothing better than sitting in a casino in Vegas having a waitress bring me free Heineken. Yes, I know they end up costing more than any beer I've bought by the time I factor in my gambling loses but at the moment it's pretty nice.

Mtofell, your "(sorry to my German friends)" should have been directed more so to the English, close to 45 degrees. It is kind of a misnomer that German beers are consumed fairly warm and are very strong. Until about 35 or so years ago the German breweries were held to the Reinheitsgebot (sp.) or that only hops, barley, water and yeast may be used in the manufacture of beer.
That wouldn't quite fly with the "screaming whore peach oatmeal hazy purple zinger ale's" of today's micro-breweries now would it?
Brenda and I visited what I believe was the Bolton Brewery in Germany where they have been brewing continuously for more than 700 years. I guess Molson and Yuengling have a ways to go.
And the most important thing to remember? Only drink what you like, not what your 'friends' think is chic...

India pale ale is a hoppy beer style within the broader category of pale ale. The export style of pale ale, which had become known as India pale ale, developed in England around 1840, later became a popular product there. Wikipedia

Original Gravity: 1.050 - 1.075
Bitterness (IBU): 40 - 120
Color (SRM): 6 - 14
Final Gravity: 1.010 - 1.018

This^^^^ - and the name "India Pale Ale" is what the English called the Pale Ale that was brewed with extra hops added to prevent spoilage while being transported in wooden casks aboard sailing vessels traveling from England to...well - India! Didn't make that up. Read it in the World History of Beers when I used to homebrew.

I grew up drinking Coors and Budweiser. Back then we were really stepping up when we bought Michelob.

I like wheat and bock beers -- don't know if they're considered craft beers -- but for the most part I stick pretty much to regular Coors. My sons and sons-in-laws consider it swill, which means I don't have to worry about them coming over to the house or campground and cleaning me out.

Favorite Brand of Beer

I have one answer to the question "What's your favorite beer?" and that is "The brand you buy me!"

Beer is all about personal taste!
I prefer hoppy beer, many don’t, I see main stream beers as watered down.

Best part of Schells is the 1919 root beer! It was kind of funny for a German town like New Ulm that the population used to be split fairly evenly on how many liked Schells and how many couldn’t stand it. And then the memory I will never forget. I went to school with a granddaughter of the family. In third or fourth grade her science project was showing how to brew beer. Had to get special permission from the nuns to bring in the finished product, and the rest of it if I remember correctly.

Hoppy how? Hops are like tea, the longer they steep in the wort/beer the more bitter they are (English bitter), the later in the process they are added the fresher they taste (Grolsch).

They are in the Cologne area, northeast of Frankfort. There is a cathedral there with two large spires if I remember correctly. We visited so many castles while we were there that I have trouble remembering the good things. Castles are like caverns; if you've seen one, you've seen them all.

I gotta go with the IPA beers once you have had a few IPA everything else tastes watery.....When I drink beer I want to taste it! A good one (west coast style) is Stone Brewing it’s a larger distributed one but I like to try the smaller local brews when I can.

As for stouts and porters those are my fall and winter afternoon favorites! And you can’t go wrong with an Imperial Stout .....

I can’t swear if it’s true or not but while helping a small bar owner install a beer cooler the sales rep for a beer distributor told us that the Guinness we were getting was brewed in Canada and that the real Guinness brewed in Ireland is not distributed in the states. The rep was an Irishman and said it tasted completely different....

From eater.com, "Guinness Extra Stout is primarily brewed and bottled in Canada, as is noted in fine print on the label." And from Wiki, " It is one of the most successful beer brands worldwide, brewed in almost 50 countries, and available in over 120."
