How do trailer sales work at RV shows?

We are going to attend the Hershey PA RV Show this month.
If we were to be BLOWN away by a newer trailer there, would we have to have our current trailer with us if we wanted to trade it in? Or are deals set up, and then finalized after the show at the dealership?
If we wanted to swap our kitchen booth & table in for recliners, would it be best to have the trailer with us? I believe we could install seating ourselves.

Deals are made at the show. Any trade in allowance is pending an inspection but the sales folks will give you some estimate of the trade value. Many dealers i've talked to will allow changing booth dinette for a table and chair option if that's available form the manufacturer. Worth asking about theater seating.

When we went to a show in Colorado Springs a few years back, the wife found "THE" trailer. They only had one of that model at the show. We worked up a preliminary agreement and gave them (I think) $500 to "hold" the trailer for us. We went to the dealer a couple of days later and the one we had looked at was sold to another family, but they had another one on the lot. The only way I knew something was different was that I took a picture of the VIN at the show. I was happy because we got a trailer that didn't have 1000 people walking through it and messing with everything.
We have been to plenty of RV shows where you walk up to an RV and there is a big "SOLD" sign on it with someone's name. Don't let that stop you since they might have more back at the dealership.
For the trailer we got last year, we wanted the individual recliners and the table/chairs options instead of the couch and booth/dinette setup. It took Keystone a couple of weeks to build it, but we got it the way we wanted. When we traded in our old trailer, I asked the dealership if I could remove some of the mods I had done to put them on the new trailer. They said that they preferred the mods were removed so it was as close to stock as possible.

Not sure I would ever "trade in" any trailer as you will generally not get any price listed in the NADA but will get sub wholesale price as they send most off to auctions. Sell your trailer in a private sale while the weather is decent and use the money for a down payment.

^^This is true. It's the magnitude of the sale that that will have a factor in the deal. If you are wanting to trade a $30,000 trailer in on a $100,000 trailer, it will be ugly. If you're upside down it will be more ugly.

At the show you can purchase the one on display, or if they have another at the dealership you can. It that one, and you can also order one.

Hadn't thought about our little mods. We'll have to give them some thought.

We traded ours (photo in signature) to the dealer and received $500 less than what we saw comparable TTs listed for on-line from dealers and private sales (if memory fails me correctly, our 4YO TT, purchased new for ~$20K (listed for ~$30K), fetched ~$12K for the trade). The advantage selling to the dealer for us was twofold: 1) we didn't have the hassle of dealing with advertising, showing, etc, and 2) the trade-in lowered the sales price of the new TT by the trade-in amount, thus lowering the amount of sales tax we had to pay. The dealer had it sold off the lot within the week.

My suggestion: do your research; you may be happy with what the dealer offers for your trade.
