Landing Gear Lube

I have a 2014 Springdale bought new last fall. I was messing around in the front compartment and discovered grease fittings on the landing gear feet on both sides. There are two fittings. Can any one tell me how much and how often they should be greased. They are painted over so I don't think they have been greased.
Thanks.

I have the same "painted over" "grease fittings" on mine, and could NOT, for the life of me, get grease into them this spring. I just gave up.

Use a hammer and small punch and tap the center pin of the fitting. That works great for opening up frozen/painted/rusted fittings. Doesn't take much, just a couple light taps to free the pin.

This is all I found in the Lippert manual:
Electric Landing Gear - Extend jacks and wipe down inner and outer jacks and apply dry lube to inner. Inspect bevel gears in top of jack to be free of dirt and contamination.

AFAIK, dry lube is a spray-on so I am scratching my head about the zerk fittings. I'm old school enough to want to squirt grease into the zerks and onto the bevel gears up top at least once a year.

There's a bunch of info on maintenance of the hydraulic landing gear systems in the Lippert manual, but not much at all on the electric ones. I just spent some time wandering through Lippert's web site and all I can find are lots of parts and circuit info. Nothing on maintenance so far.

I think the manual is referring to wiping the inner tube with dry lube -- the exterior tube that travels up and down- not the gear mechanism inside the large square tube. The zerk fittings would be for lubing the gears with a grease gun. Like you, I think those gears need grease and not the dry lube variety.

The top end of the landing gear really is not subject to much hostile environment. Whatever grease you put in there should stay there for a long time. My last 5th wheel had no fittings, just a removable plastic cap on top. I could pack about a teaspoon of chassis grease in there once every five years and it went to the salvage yard that way after 20 years of use. No gear problems!

If the gears/mechanism being lubricated with grease isn't sealed, the grease will, after a time, dry out and harden JMHO (and experience). I put several pumps of grease into all four fittings when we first brought the trailer home. Now I add grease every time I grease the wet bolts. BTW, the landing gear is much quieter after having been greased

When I grease the spring shackles I give the landing gear a single pump of grease, never seen a problem
