Alternate roof seam ideas

The radiused front cap on my Passport has buckled/delaminated from a leak. I'm going to replace the whole front filon piece with new using a luan backer instead of the press-board the factory used.

I was surprised by how the excess roof membrane goes UNDER the filon, with the aluminum strip used the cover the seam. If the dicor fails, this design invites water to enter the wall. Wouldn't it make more sense to prevent water intrusion if the membrane overlapped on TOP of the filon?

Any other ideas how to improve the seam when I do my replacement?

Pretty much every rv trailer is built that way. The roof is installed before the front/rear caps are added.

I wouldn’t try to reinvent that wheel.

On my last trailer I covered the aluminum strip with 6" wide eternabond tape. Never had a leak.
