I wonder if the oily, "snot like" substance you found might be the additive used to give propane its odor? I have heard the additive referred to as "onion oil"?

Kind of what I’m thinking. Maybe the bulk tank they filled from had a lot of sediment.

After trying all suggestions still no joy so took trailer to Camper Country in Myrtle Beach SC. The owner Scott booked me in immediately and his technician quickly diagnosed that the galvanized pipe which carries the LP gas to the trailers appliances had a slight bow in it and condensation had over time rusted through causing a gas leak. This in turn caused the system to shut down. A good warning to occasionally check the galvanized pipes for any rust problems. Thanks to all for replying to my problem. Mick Taylor.

The problem with the diagnosis is it's not legal to use galvanized piping for LP, it must be black pipe, copper, or stainless steel. Plus the salty sea air along the coast had as much or more to do with the rust as any condensation.
I do agree you should inspect the entire LP system regularly & keep it painted to prevent rust.
