Outback 266RB - Maxair 12 volt electrical wiring

Hi, we are considering purchasing a Maxair 7500K DLX to install in the bedroom of our Outback 266RB. Is there any existing wiring in this location for the install of this unit? If not how should we proceed to wire the Maxair properly? Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum

If you have a vent already, is it powered? If not you may be able to pull power from a light in the ceiling.

Is this an exhaust fan or just a fan...the deluxe maxair sounds like a big one what kind of of power does it need? Is it like the one in your bathroom only better...you really going to cut a hole in your roof?

Thank you! The existing vent opening is pre wired with 120v for the option of an additional air conditioning unit. Not sure if 12v is available in that same location. Will look into pulling from a nearby ceiling light. Thanks again.

If it’s prewired for an AC there should be a 12V feed for the control box if it’s set up for a remote thermostat.

Thank you for your reply. We would be installing the Maxair 7500K DLX into the existing 14” x 14” vent opening in the bedroom ceiling. The unit runs off 12v and we are hoping that the wiring is already available in the ceiling close to the opening where the fan is to be installed. Thanks again for your reply.

When you pull the current vent garnish trim ring (square plastic trim piece with 4 screws holding it in place) you should be able to locate the wiring close to the vent by using a flash light and peeking through the holes in the wood framing. Remember: The single wires are 12 volts DC and the ROMEX wiring is 120 volts AC.... It should be fairly easy to locate a few single wires. Then, you'll need to verify if they are hot, ground or is they are on an existing switch.

DON'T ASSUME THAT BECAUSE IT'S A SINGLE WIRE THAT YOU CAN TAP IT TO POWER A FAN. It may be a thermostat wire, a clearance light wire or even a overhead light wire, so some of those would be suitable to power a fan, others would only power the fan when connected to the tow vehicle with the lights on.... There's "lots of wires" running through the ceiling, so verify what you have before trying to use it for a fan power....

It sounds doable maybe Good luck, let us know how it goes. I'm assuming for 12 volt it would be controlled by a switch on the new unit...120 volts should be controlled by a wall switch/thermostat like an AC unit. Mind you, I've made and *** out of my self many times before by assuming things

All max air fans are 12V, and if controlled by a wall unit is still 12V with a telephone comm cable.

Update re: Maxxair fan installation in bedroom

Hello again all, thank you so much for all the responses, they definitely gave me the confidence that the installation was doable. We did not have the confidence ourselves to complete the installation but we hired a mobile technician who successfully and efficiently completed it for us. The technician effortlessly drew the wires from a nearby ceiling light and and fished them a few inches over to the vent opening for the connection to the fan. The technician did say that there might be a problem if the lights had been connected to a wall switch but thankfully ours were not. The fan works perfectly and we are very happy with the results.
