better to store slide outs out or in

When you aren't going anywhere for a month or two....or even once a month, is it better to store them in? specially with the awnings?

When our RV sits for a month or two, we have our slide outs IN. I do, however, bring them in and out every so often (once every two weeks or so) to keep the seals and internal moving parts lubricated. This practice is recommended in the Lippert Operation and Service Manual as well as in the Keystone Owner's Manual.
I think having the slide topper in a rolled up position makes it less prone to UV damage and puts less stress on the spring mechanism. When I do extend the slideout, the awning gets a good cleaning before I retract the slide.

how do you clean them and is there some kind of conditioner that you can put on those and the awning? How do you do it too if there is something? Arizona heat/sun is so hard on stuff.

I also leave my slideouts retracted when not in use. If you have
a hydraulic system on your slide-outs you will need to wipe the
cylinder rods with WD40 if you leave them out for a long period
of time. The cylinder rods will rust if not protected. Once the rods
start to pit and chrome plating starts to flake it will damage seals
when you retract and extend the slide-outs.

When the slide is in, I have one wall and 2 windows that could potentially leak, when the slide is out, I have 3 walls, 4 windows and a roof that could leak. Seems like the less exposure the better when it comes to preserving the slide and the RV, so store with the slide in and minimize the exposure.
