Really need help with 2005 cougar 314 bhs weight questions

New to the site. Posted a question yesterday and received no replies
Still looking for some help on my questions.
Just brought home the unit. It was advertised as a 1/2 ton towable weighing in at 7778 dry weight. I cannot find the weight tag on it but did crawl under the unit and found a plate on the axle that read 5200 lbs without wheels and tires.
Can anyone tell me where to find the weight on the unit or where to find specs? I have tried the keystone site and cannot get much more info. Thank you

when I googled it most places say the dry weight is 8540 pounds. This weight sounds about right to me

Sometimes the weight tag is on a cabinet door inside. Most time in kitchen area. My 2002 cougar tag is on outside on drivers side where u would stand to raise an lower fifth wheel. Best bet would to take it to scales an weight it. Good luck.

Lot of places have taken to the advertisement of half ton tow-able. What they are leaving out is only a certain half ton/tons most likely can tow it. Lot of dealers are basing the specs of the ford eco with max payload and pax tow which for the most part makes it more of a 2500 then a 1500 IMO.

A camper 7800pds dry will be more like 8800 loaded and that's keeping a check on what you put in. Most half tons your going to be very close to your max payload with that rig. This is not something I could haul with my 2011 Ram, granted there are Rams with more options that haul more then mine in the Half Ton Configuration. I think mine is Max 9100 pds and payload of a little under 1500

Just so you know I towed mine with a F-350 7.3PSD. When loaded that is a heavy TT. I think mine was in the 95-9800lb range loaded. I had a weight ticket at one time I am sure I have throw it out now. that 7778 seems to be right for dry weight and around 1500-1700lbs of loaded weight can be added. This has been 3 years since we had ours I thought I had some numbers in the PC or flash drive but cant find them.
You will be pushing a 1/2 ton truck big time. again this is JMHO,

Mystery solved... I hope

The model # 314BHS isn't listed until 2007. The 314 (bunkhouse floorplan) is shown as model 314EFS from 2004-2006...
actually, for what-ever-reason, ALL Cougar 5th wheels are shown as 'EFS' models manufactured during those 3 years.

2005 Cougar 314EFS
Dry/Shipping Weight 8,105 lbs
Carrying Capacity 3,425 lbs
Dry Hitch Weight 1,370 lbs
GVWR: 11,530 lbs

The 2005 models (specs & flooplans) can be found here:

http://www.keystonerv.com/previous-y...ugar&year=2005

And welcome to the forum karynkiger

Is that a fifth wheel? It seems to me that "half-ton towable fifth-wheel" is an oxymoron. There are very few cases where it's doable. The only person here I know of with an F150 and a fifth wheel is *extremely* weight conscious of the trailer and what's loaded.

In the specs from the previous post, dry hitch is 1,270. Add in another 250 lbs for the hitch, and you're at an optimistic 1500 lbs. Add in a bit of real world trailer load and then people and stuff in your truck and you're maxed out.

I purchased a 1/2 ton series travel trailer, see listed below. I do like the trailer. I know not know who advertised it as 1/2 ton towable, Keystone does not. I read thru the manual and keystone printed booket and web. They INFER they are towable by 1/2 ton trucks but, no where due they say that they are 1/2 ton towable. They say they are made lighter etc., check your trucks weight rating etc. Advertiseing? They should change the name so not to sucker folks in with their 1/2 tons trucks and overload them. And yes you can tow them with 3/4 and 1 tons.
