Hmmmmm ???

I'm not sure if anyone else may have noticed, but from what I can see on the Keystone website, with the exception of "stock only" (discontinued production) fifth wheels, the entire 2017 year run of Cougar fifth wheel model offerings has been "upsized" to 37' models. Gone are the 33'-36' trailers.

http://www.keystonerv.com/cougar/

It appears (to me) that Keystone is "upsizing" the entire Cougar line, adding some longer trailers (32 ft plus) the "mid height" (X-Lite) fifth wheels and only producing Cougars in the "one ton truck" size. ??????

Re: Hmmmmm ???

Well if it is anything like smart-phones.... It used to be we couldn't get them small enough. Now, they need to be just a bit bigger, oh wait, maybe just a bit bigger than the last one! LOL

If you notice, on the models that are under 37', there's a note next to the model number that says, "stock only" (which indicates those model runs have been discontinued).

In the West Models, the smallest "continued run model" is the 326SRXWE at 37'7" and the 326RDSWE at 37'8". In the East models, the smallest is the 327RES at 37'4" and the 326SRX at 37'7".

You're correct, there are "still available models" of the 288RLS, 303RLS, 325RPS, 330RBK which are "shorter than 37 feet" but they are all discontinued and listed as "stock only". Once they are sold, the shortest "current year Cougar" will be over 37' long and have an empty pin weight in excess of 1800 pounds.

Re: Hmmmmm ???

That is because the dealer said they are all 1/2 ton towable so why buy the little ones.

Re: Hmmmmm ???

My dealer said Cougar is trying to upscale their market place as a higher end model. Not quite the "high end" but way above the "mid range".

Re: Hmmmmm ???

I bought a 2016 Cougar 303RLS. At just under 35' it is perfect for 2 of us and a dog. I have a 1 ton so TV did not enter into the purchase decision. There were many "packages" that were mandatory to order. About the only thing of importance that could be ordered, at least late in the run, was auto-level (which is worth every penny). I believe my Cougar is a great unit and another will be #1 on my list when we decide to upgrade. I'll also be looking at Grand Design and 1 from FR and 1 from Heartland. However, we do not need another 3'.Everything depends on floor plan.

Re: Hmmmmm ???

Makes you wonder if Keystone is going to start classifying brand by size instead of having 5 different types with basically the same floor plan and same class. If you look at the Alpine line, they are all the same length. Maybe Cougar will be the 35' brand of trailers and another line-up will come in with smaller sizes. It would save a lot of money on production.

Sort of like GM's "Buick/Pontiac/Oldsmobile lines, or Ford's Ford/Mercury lines or Dodge's Plymouth/Dodge lines ???

Seems the auto companies "merged lines" several years ago. You may be right in thinking Keystone is in the process of merging their lines and consolidating to offer "size related" RV's rather than "multiple brands of the same model".
