Charger location

Seems my battery is not charging while on shore power. Any idea where a charger would be hiding on a 2011 cougar 327RES
Thank you .. again

Re: Charger location

I believe they're behind the fuse panel, typically. And since you're there - check the fuses.

Re: Charger location

As gkaintz said, in modern units, the inverter/converter is part of the fuse panel. Before I got carried away tearing apart the harness and/or fuses, I'd try testing the battery terminals for 12v+ while on shore power. If you have it there, try disconnecting and charging the battery on a conventional battery charger, and then have it tested at AutoZone etc....

If you are still on the original battery, I'm willing to bet that this is your problem. If you got 5 years, it doesn't owe you a dime. Make sure you replace it with a "Deep Cycle" RV or Marine battery.

Good luck,

Re: Charger location

The converter/charger is most likely located under or behind the circuit breaker/fuse panel.
Do you have 12v dc power while not on shore power??? (fuse on pos. cable blown or battery disconnect off or bad battery )

If all 12v lights an accessories work while on shore power your converter is working and does not require a battery.

Re: Charger location

Thanks everyone
I found the converter behind the fuse panel. All fuses good.. battery is new.. Sadly it has very little output. When plugged in it supplies only enough power for the LP gas detector with the battery disconnected. Shows very low MV reading... I will be off to the converter store.

Re: Charger location

Check your battery before going off and buying a new converter. You could have a dead cell, or lose connection.

Re: Charger location

My charger/converter just went out. I replaced it with a PD4655. Just fit where the original was. The PD is a better quality unit as well. Well worth the price. IMHO.

Re: Charger location

There is next to no output from the converter with battery disconnected. Battery is new. When I connect a charger the battery takes a charge.. Im convinced its the converter. I would like to install something better though. As I said in another post the parts person I spoke to keeps a lot in stock because "they go all the time" she said.

Re: Charger location

There are two "40 Amp Reverse Polarity" fuses on the converter. They "protect" the converter from damage if the battery cables are connected incorrectly. They may be the reason for your "no charge" condition. I'd first check them, then if you still aren't charging your battery, and you're sure the battery is not defective, then you'll probably need to replace the converter.

Remember: A battery can fail, even if it's new, so I'd urge you to take it to AutoZone (or another parts house) and have it load tested, just to be sure that it's in good condition and also that it hasn't been damaged by the current converter.

Good Luck.

Re: Charger location

Thanks John
I checked both fuses and they are both working .. The WFCO site says there should be voltage coming out of the converter when it is powered up. I get next to no voltage from it .. I left it on all all day the battery dropped from 12.8 to 12 .4 volts after 24 hr.. I switched it off and connected a trickle charger and in 12 hr I'm at 13.5 .. It's the converter for sure..

Re: Charger location

Sounds like it's the converter to me also.

Re: Charger location

I noticed as soon as I turned the new charger on once connected the fan started.. But note to group.. There is not real voltage output from the new one when plugged in until you load it up with the battery. When I read the diagnostic instructions on the website it said there should be 13+ volts from the charger.. Not true unless it's connected to a battery ... I had both plugged in side by side on the floor and both had next to no output .. But once I installed new one and repowered the fan started and I had 13+ volts at the battery and a smile
