Question on Slideout linkage

I was lubing my slideouts and notice that the hydraulic push/pull bars have a lot of slack in the adjustment nuts (see attached). Are they supposed to and what is the purpose?

Yes the slack (gap) is suppose to be there. They are set to the point needed for full extension and retraction of the slide.
