Flathead Lake - Montana

We will most likely be heading into this area after Labour Day and since this will be our first trip into the Flathead Lake region, I am wondering if any of you have camped there, what your impressions and recommendations for campgrounds would be and if you have any particular State Park or private campsite that you would highly recommended to stay at?

I think that we will be here for about a week or so - depending upon the weather. The State Parks in this area are all on a first-come, first-served basis and their fees are very reasonable --- $15. It seems that the majority of them do not have hookups but there are a few that do. Not having hookups doesn't matter anyway.

Looking for some opinions and recommendations. Richard.

We stayed in Poulson, on the south end of the lake, about 3 years ago. I think it was Eagle's Nest RV Resort. Full service place, which was good for a break to catch up on laundry and have some luxuries, but wasn't very scenic. Nice little swimming pool, etc. I think the Big Arm area to at the north end was a more interesting area. Not sure about the east side of the lake.

Looking for updated info on National, State and private campgrounds in Flathead Lake area. Planning trip in July in or around Kalispell.

We have also stayed at Eagles Nest in Poulson. Did not find much to do in Poulson. Have also stayed in Lakeside Mt at Edgewater RV Resort.

Edgewater is a well run RV park. Great washrooms. Close to Big Fork MT and Kalispell. Nice part of Montana.

We were in that area two years ago. Stayed at http://www.spruceparkrv.com/
It was a central location for GNP, Flathead lake and Whitefish lake. Kayaked both lakes, toured GNP twice.
We didn't stay at the RV park with the intentions of doing all 3 side trips. It was mostly for GNP. We stumbled onto the other lakes. Worked out great for us.
With that being said you could still do all that staying at Flathead if that is something you're interested in.
